Voting in Pakistan

Re: Voting in Pakistan

ANYONE having a Paki-CNIC and being 18+ and a registered voter CAN.. irrespective of the fact if he or she is from TANGANEEKA!!!

Khush rahein…

Re: Voting in Pakistan

i like your attitude. sadly but understandably, i find that many pakistanis are so used to the lack of democracy, the corruption, etc etc that they have lost hope for the political process all together and are completely estranged from politics.
i hope you do get to vote.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

yeah thats the perfect attitude to have when ur living thousands of miles away from all the happenings. go to pak, vote for your favorite dictator and then come back to your beloved USA. let the local populace suffer the brunt of dictatorship while you are safe in your heaven.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

so you think non-resident pakistanis should not have the right to vote - or just if they vote for musharraf?

phatima - just noticed this from the link someone gave you to the election commission:
Q 1. What is the minimum age for enrollment as a voter?
Ans. 18 Years on the first of January of the year in which the electoral rolls are prepared or revised.
so, it looks like you will not get to vote, since your birthday is after jan. 1.

problems are your own. You don't blame them on your mother, the ecology, or the President. You realize that you control your own destiny.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

British Lord Macaulay at India (mid-1800) also prepared/drafted the PENAL CODE which still persists in INDIA & PAKISTAN.

The term Macaulay's Children is used to refer to people born of Indian ancestry who adopt Western culture as a lifestyle. The term is usually used in a derogatory fashion, and the connotation is one of disloyalty to one's country and one's heritage. The passage to which the term refers is from his Minute on Indian Education , delivered in 1835. It reads, "It is impossible for us, with our limited means, to attempt to educate the body of the people. We must at present do our best to form a class who may be interpreters between us and the millions whom we govern; a class of persons, Indian in blood and colour, but English in taste, in opinions, in morals, and in intellect.

To that class we may leave it to refine the vernacular dialects of the country, to enrich those dialects with terms of science borrowed from the Western nomenclature, and to render them by degrees fit vehicles for conveying knowledge to the great mass of the population.".

Earlier....this year...an argument was raging in Pakistan about the reform of religious education in Madaaris (Islamic name for primary level religious schools).

Lord Macaulay's infamous Minute on Indian Education, a treatise on imposing English-language education on India, anticipated many of the same arguments.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

kakay je i'm not saying they have no right to vote. all i'm saying is if you are going to vote for a dictator then why not stay in the country and enjoy life under his rule. simple as that.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

sure and 1000+ ppl missing in pakistan (thanx to mushy n secret services) prolly had the same idea of controlling their destinies and can you tell me where they are now? its all good and well in writings and books but ground reality is not as rosey as you think of it.

Re: Voting in Pakistan

saeein because sadly what happens in Pakistan affects people of Pakistani background in US as well. so it is in their interests to vote if they can.

Some have suggested that if you are eligible to vote but dont..you will still be factored in the election and your vote given to someone anyways :D so might as well go and vote too atleast this way you are making a choice and not ppl muckin bout the election :D

Re: Voting in Pakistan

I was being facetious :)

Re: Voting in Pakistan

VOTING ! (some classic quotes)

VOTE--for the men who promises least---he'll be least disappointing.

--

The ballot box is a most inadequate mechanism of change.

--

To vote, then to make the voter feel as if he/she has accepted some meaningless badge from an authority he/she dare not admit he/she loathes.

---

Ask a person which way he is going to vote, and he will probably tell you. Ask him, however, why, and vagueness is all.

---

Voting is simly a way of determining which side is the stronger without putting it to the test of fighting.

---

VOTERS--DO NOT DECIDE ISSUES. THEY DECIDE WHO WILL DECIDE ISSUES......!

Re: Voting in Pakistan

read the info provided to you :smilestar:

Q 1. What is the minimum age for enrollment as a voter?
Ans
. 18 Years on the** first of January of the year in which the electoral rolls are prepared or revised.**

Re: Voting in Pakistan

Wait so I have to be 18 right now to vote? :frowning:

awww :hinna:

Personally, I think democracy sucks (in short). But, when you have no choice, you have to vote for the lesser of the evils (in this case, Musharraf).

Can non-natural citizens of Pakistan (a citizen not born in Pakistan) run for President?

Re: Voting in Pakistan

thats the typical american attitude…not surprise at all. iraq is the shining example of getting rid of a lesser evil [saddam] to please the bigger evil [USA].

Re: Voting in Pakistan

saieen, I don't like your tone, pal. It's kinda mean. =\

Well, would you rather support a lesser evil or not vote at all (which could make you the cause of a greater evil taking over)?

Re: Voting in Pakistan

keep on supporting this so called lesser evil and it will grow into a BIGGER EVIL thanx to the support. as for my vote…it may not be the part of the solution but i’m not adding to the problem either by siding with a dictator.

as for my tone…its better to be mean than to kill, kidnapp and imprison peolpe. also i don’t care whether you like it or not. i’m not here to earn good book enteries. so grow up. :halo:

:pagli:

Re: Voting in Pakistan

Saieen - why you little! you just wait right here I’ve called Sara baji to come straighten you out, mister. :emmy:

And pal, it’s not like your refusal to vote (or even a large number of people’s refusal to vote) will cause a better leader to come in and take over. :stuck_out_tongue: You’re still screwed so you might as well pick the lesser of the evils so that your vote atleast goes in opposition of the greater evil(s).
