I wonder if this is in reaction to what is happening in the north. Hope that this will be controlled with iron hands to stop these killings ASAP.

Violence explodes across North Karachi

KARACHI: Private TV channels reported as many as 24 people have been killed in incidents across the city, and mobs have gathered in various areas, setting close to a dozen vehicles on fire. Public transport has become scarce, and the situation remains tense.

DawnNews quoted a Rangers spokesman as saying that during a search operation in North Karachi, weapons including rifles, pistols, repeaters as well as ammunition were recovered from the scene of a brutal exchange between two rival gangs.

He further stated that as many as 25 people have been arrested from the area.

The spokesman maintained the action was successful.

Meanwhile, APP reported that Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has taken notice of the violence and directed IG police to take strict action against ‘anti-social elements’ and ensure security of life and property of people at all cost.

Private TV channels have also reported that PM Gilani has requested a report to be prepared on the unrest.

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

pathetic. No breakdown yet of who the people killed are, but most likely its the average pathan or muhajir looking person who went into the wrong area.

absolutely pathetic.

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

Actually it's a multiple combination: In one incident it was ANP vs. JSQM, and then their is Lyari with baloch gang of Rehman dakait (PPP backed) against the local people from memon group who fought against bhatta collection of rehman dakait. Also 2 MQM workers were killed by possibly ANP or perhaps someone else.

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

Its MQM. MQM has long history of creating ethnic splits and rioting

Educational Instutions - All closed in Karachi

Ethnic rioting has reached its peak in karachi. The lastest News is that all education institutions are closed and examinations cancelled. At least 43 people were killed and over 125 wounded as firing and violent incidents continued to affect the country’s financial capital on Monday.

Trucks, cabs and businesses of Pashtuns are systematically burnt and destroyed by mqm.

Its like a mini war between MQMand Pastun communities of Karachi. But the good news is that Chief Minister has ordered the police to shoot the micreants at first sight

Soon Mqm will start crying now

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

Pakistan needs to rid itself of this disease known as MQM.

Too bad Pakistan is focusing on US agendas in Northern Areas, and not doing enough to clear up its civil messes.

Somebody slap Altaf please.

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

lets be real, it is violence between MQM goons and ANP goons, innocent bystanders of both ethnicities are getting caught in the crossfire and being targeted, but to simply say its MQM attackign innocent pathans is selective reading.

all miscreants should be dealt with, MQM, ANP and whoever else. lets not have ethnic filters on magnifying glasses distort the view

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

As mush as I hate shahi syed the ANP hypocrite, there is a third element here which is the land mafia and taliban allies.

ur very right but most of persons are now traitors and will not listen to us!

but some people here are indeed very good also

:)

I am surprised that why these hate mongers mqm supporters.........who are neither true to Islam nor true to Pakistan are allowed to post their propaganda here.

If i were admin of any forum I would ban all people who lobby declaring Pakistan as a Taliban state, same people also do cheering for USA invasion of Pakistan

Modertator sahab wake up please!

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

So in north, Enemies of Pakistan (like India) are using Talibans to destabilize the country, while Army is at it, this time with public support, they used their old agents, i.e. MQM to open new front..

An operation is required to get rid of this disease, which is known asl MQM

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

We need somebody like General Retired Naseerullah Baber. He was the man who crushed the jinnahpor movement of MQM terrorists

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

[mod] Everyone please calm down & follow forum rules or thread would be closed[/mod]

..and then created taleban, which btw is the biggest problem facing the nation right now..

the thign with such movements is that once the head goes they kinda die out as well, sindhu desh kicked the bucket with GM syed, pakhtunistan went down the tube once ghaffar khan and wali khan were gone. Nothing to really worry about. BLA ppl are running all around once their leaders go, that will die down as well, same with Altaf.

Re: Violence explodes across North Karachi

We seriously need to get rid of MQM. They are the biggest internal threat facing Pakistan. They kill innocent people everyday, hold entire Karachi hostage and then claim to be worried about Talibanization. traitors.

Thank God, Gupshup don't make psycho a admin.

Karachi situation under control, parties cooperating: govt

KARACHI: Sindh Home Minister Zulfikar Mirza said Thursday that the situation in Karachi had been brought under control and that political parties in the city were cooperating to restore peace, a statement echoed by the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
Karachi remained tense on Thursday, a day after at least 29 people were killed and over 42 others were injured in a fresh wave of ethnic violence in the city’s different areas. About 20 vehicles were torched during the unrest.

Home Minister Mirza said that the MQM, PPP and ANP believe in peace and harmony and they will not allow criminal elements in their ranks. It had been decided to form an all-party committee to maintain peace in Karachi, he said. Both MQM and ANP – the major parties in the affected areas - had assured the Sindh government of their complete support in the matter, Mirza added.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar said there were no differences between the parties and all three should join hands to restore peace, MQM leader Farooq Sattar said. The violence in Karachi was a conspiracy against the government and destabilising the city amounted to destabilising Pakistan, he added.

Meanwhile, Rangers were on the patrol on Thursday and shoot-at-sight orders were in place in the city.

Tension and panic gripped parts of the city overnight as unidentified attackers went on a shooting spree, killing most of the victims at point-blank range.

City police chief Wasim Ahmed told Dawn that 20 people had been killed in the violence across the city, including ‘16 Pathans and three Urdu-speaking people.’
Police said that the trouble began early in the morning when armed men who had taken position on the hills in North Karachi fired volleys of bullets upon Zarina Colony, a shanty town in the foothills. A worker of the Muttahida **Quami Movement was killed at around 10:30 a.m. when he came under fire. **

Police said a sub-inspector and a constable were shot and wounded when law-enforcement personnel went to fetch the body.

The SP of North Karachi, Dr Farooq Ahmed, told Dawn that police and Rangers returned fire, forcing the gunmen to retreat. ‘Later, police and Rangers conducted a siege and search operation on the hills, arrested 16 people and seized some weapons,’ he added.

Witnesses said special commandos from Rangers also reached the troubled hills and flushed the armed men out of the area.
They said a Rangers man was shot and wounded in the action.

****Most of the violent incidents took place in Khawaja Ajmair Nagri, Surjani Town and New Karachi Industrial Area. The violence-hit areas wore a deserted look as shopkeepers pulled down their shutters and vehicular traffic disappeared. ****
**An MQM worker was shot dead in Shah Faisal Colony. His body was first taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and then to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem. **

Police surgeon Dr Hamid Padhiar told Dawn that 12 people were brought dead to the Abbasi Hospital. ‘Five bodies were later shifted to the JPMC,’ he added.

The director at the emergency centre of JPMC, Dr Seemin Jamali, told Dawn that 11 bodies and 18 wounded people were brought to the hospital. ‘Four wounded victims later died,’ she added.

Civil Hospital’s medico-legal officer Dr Sarwat Channa said that a man was brought dead from North Nazimabad and another man from Teen Hatti.

‘A man with a bullet wound was brought to the facility from Gulistan-i-Jauhar,’ he added. Vehicles were torched in North Karachi, Landhi, Malir and Al-Fallah.

The dead were identified as Zahoor Shah, Sanubar Khan, Din Mohammed, Javed, Jalil, Amjad, Mehmood, Shahid, Juma Khan, Sanwal, Dost Ali, Jameel, Sarfaraz, Khalid, Shah Khalid and Hanif.

Sources said that two bullet-riddled bodies were found at a post office in Sachal area. The bodies were taken to the JPMC late in the night
