and second of all, read what i said, it was a general statement

"As long as the right people are being tortured, I dont care"

meaning, if Pakistan Army has determined without a shadow of a doubt that person has info about terrorism then he needs to be tortured in order to extract it

First, this video looks pretty fishy because there is heavy editing and only parts of the event are shown. Second, the only thing I find disturbing in this video is the beating of that elderly man.

But why don’t you feel compassion for thousands upon thousands of innocent Muslims, Pakistanis and Pashtuns killed by these same people? And not only men but children, women and elderly. Do you not see their deaths worthy of your sadness? Do you not find their families pain worthy of your attention? These people get wages, that makes them mercenaries not people doing Jihad fe-sabi-lallah.

This is not an ethnic problem as many want to take it there for their own demonic agendas. Its a struggle between Kuffar and Muslims and these are Kuffar’s dogs. Divide and conquer, the age old strategy, they are used to soften up and divide a Muslim nation before invading it. Nothern Alliance played the same role. Peshmurgga helped in Iraq. Al-quaida does this in other countries. These people have twisted Islam to match their own will just like Yahud and Nasara have done, they are no different. They are holding our minds prisoners by raising the cry of Jihad and Islam. They call themself a jihadi to gain legitimacy among Muslims because they are nothing if we don’t accept them. In reality they are eating our society and religion from the roots up.

Fighting the kuffar has never been a problem for Muslims but these are our hidden enemies, the vermin, that are going to destroy us if undelt!

The SWAT militants had declared a war against Pakistan -- Our Army has done an incredible job cleaning up the area and they have the responsibility to capture the hidden and 'passive' militants too, and I am in favor of them doing whatever is needed to get this done. If 10% of innocent civilians suffer from it, so be it. It's better than having civilians butchered in street corners.

And that marwati dude trying to give this an ethnic color, shame on you. The army operation is not a challenge to "Pushtoon Traditions", in fact it is being done with the help of FC (All Pushtoon) and probably wtih the help of large number of Pushtoons we have in the army.

If I or my family was living in the area and had the risk of being probed by Army, I'd still support what they are doing. Having some people beaten up is a necessary cost of the struggle against the militants.

i agree this was not expected of pakistan army shouldbe such low level tactics applied. BUT .
IF THIS IS TRUE then:

you notice this was done was a field commander and probably during the operation that was going on notice soldiers if they are pakistani soldiers they are battle ready with bullet proof vests and rifles on them this isnt normal interrogation but on spot interrogation.

furthermore when you are field commander you have been under trememdous stress your jawans being killed by your side, buildings destroyed , chaos all around you and you have seen horrors of butchery, suicide bombings,tales of rape forced marriages you do loose compassion my dear and this goes for ordinary soldiers beating the guys and specially when you are rounded up as a suspect or close family of the taliban leader and supposedly with information which can save lives and you are holding it..

if someone says it was systematic i dont agree based on just this video even if it is true.

by the way i saw discussion yesterday where local journalist of swat was saying although these things had been reported earlier but local people of swat are welcoming this and want to see same things applied to taliban the way they treated people, so i guess some things we may not know untill we go through the experience i do want them taliban killed same way but frankly speaking myself got distressed watching the video that is what we are soft individuals.

And for all those crying about elderly person, as much as it is disturbing, just imagine if that guy was responsible for slitting throats of 10s of people. Do you still think he 'deserves' respect?

I would have loved to see Muslim Khan being kicked and tortured publicly the same way.

by the way their is police as well and notice in the end guy with a paper in the hand presumable a list so i would say they were deemed taliban suspects.

also video is heavily edited and i guess during that time these guys did speak and i presume that portion was edited to remove the guilt of the suspects and make it one sided against pakistan army.

This could be shocking for weak hearted people but its called interrogation. You have to coerce information from these people. You can’t beg them to give you tips!

I guess my fellow pakistanis are too naive . this is part of interrogation. Army cannot treat suspects like cheif guests and give them royal treatment.Its just normal drawing room ki seer as said in tv serial andhra ujala style. If you are looking at this video please do have a look at the taliban criminal videos where they are slaughtering our soldiers necks . How can you expect the army to keep soft corners for these loonies??

Yes, this was rather disturbing. I wish things hadnt come to this.

But what did we expect. Such things were bound happen. Torture happens in countries with a lot better moral standing then Pak, so this was to be expected at the very least.

Im reminded of the people who couldnt understand why Pakistan was so hesitant to go to war with the Taliban in the swat to begin with.. Well, I guess its because when you go to war and start fighting an insurgency in a country like PAKISTAN, then such violations are going to happen. There must have been some wisdom in the govt for having hesitated.

All we can do is pray that this fighting ends, the Army returns to the barracks, and we can be spared such disgusting displays.

I agree. This is extremely disgusting to watch.

But this is very common in Pakistan, whether its at the hands of the Army or the Police etc.

I can imagine these soldiers have seen many of their fellow soldiers being killed by the talibs, so revenge is a great motivating factor.
Another thing is that they are following orders. They are not trained to feel any sympathy for the enemy.
None of this is an excuse ofcourse.
The ultimate fault lies with their superiors. If anyone should be held accountable its them.

And there is no way to know beyond a shadow of a doubt.
