Video Seems to Show Beheading of American (Merged from General)

Sorry, didn't see the WA thread on this. Mod/Admin, feel free to remove this thread if you like.

Parents of a US contractor beheaded by Islamic militants in Iraq are blaming the Bush administration for his death, saying that US authorities had contributed to the tragedy by unlawfully detaining their son for nearly two weeks before his disappearance.

Michael Berg claimed on Tuesday that his son, Nick, was held by US authorities without access to a telephone or lawyer because of suspicions that he was an insurgent or terrorist. By the time he was finally released in early April, according to Mr Berg, the security situation had so deteriorated that it was difficult for him to make his way home.

“That’s really what cost my son his life, the fact that the United States government saw fit to keep him in custody for 13 days without any of his due process or civil rights,” Mr Berg said.

The family’s accusation comes as the Bush administration struggles to fend off allegations that it has denied the civil rights of thousands of mostly Arab detainees it is holding in military prisons.

Mr Berg’s father disputed this, saying it was “the FBI”, when asked in a radio interview who had detained his son. **“We named Rumsfeld as the responsible person, and I still hold him responsible,” **Mr Berg said. “It’s the whole Patriot Act. It’s the whole feeling of this country that rights don’t matter any more because there are terrorists about.”

Parents blame US for son’s killing

So the parents of the victim know who is to blame u wonder if the blind folded right wing brigade and the uncle toms who wish they was amerikkan will?

Amerikan goverment is guilty for launching an illegal occupation for abusing and torturing abusing men, women and children.

This video aside... what is this new trend of making videos and taking pics of every stupid thing... Ok, so you are having sex in your home (Hilton) or on your boat (Pam) or urinating on prisoners (Brits) or making sex-piles of prisoners (Al-Gharab)... whats the fascination with taking pics, smiling for the camera and screwing yourselves completely. Morons!

If I were his parents..I'd be beside myself.

Surely American Authorities perspective that Geneva Conventions in the Bay aren't completely applicable. Some aspects concidered ....... applicable but not ......... applicable.

What were those words used?

Excessive force when deemed necessary is to be approved by Rumsfield.

Surely photographs...of abused Iraqi prisoners causes harm to fellow soldiers..and endangers any person of western loyalties working in the area...

As well as westerners anywhere.

Its my opinion that policy on the Bay endangers Americans.

Works against what American leaders jobs are.

^ Thx. I don't think the 'pyramids' were that much of a pyramid. It was more like piled up.

And secondly, whats the fascination of American military to look at naked men all day? Sheesh! looking at some of the pics, it seems, the first order of buisness for anyone sent to Al-Gharab is to get into your birthday suite and stay that way all day. Weirdos.

Faisal, it was horrific abuse of prisoners, but the jail keepers knew that nothing works better to break an Arab Man’s by taking his “Izat” away in that manner. Humiliation in other words. That’s what the hue and cry is in the Arab world,,,not about beating or torture, but about Arab men’s asses. I find it kinda funny in a sad sort of way. Ass has a lot of stigma attached to it in the Arab world.

All that is one thing.. but to take 200 pics...??? And making video of the whole thing ???

Guess whose arse are those gonna bite now.

They are right when they say, most of these military guys are not the brightest bulbs in the chandelier.

And that 21 year old cigarette-dangling gal who is gleefully pointing fingers at the prisoners in the pics ... they say there are more pics of her having sex with that sergent in the prison. And then she says to her family "I was at the wrong place at the wrong time" ... sucker!

Yeah Faisal, but now the new beheading video has kinda thrown the photos off the top 10. Who knows what tomorrow comes out. Nothing surprises me anymore. Beheading stuff can be expected from lowlife criminals, but the ordeal at Abu-Gharib was not expected. I feel comfort in the fact that one of their own guys turned them in. So there's hope.

That is one of the best comments!

But I don't agree with you when you say that Americans have executed more people than Iraqis have. ?

I think he meant americans have killed more iraqis than vice versa.

MV

i dont think that we have a difference of opinion on this issue, just stating the same thing differently i suppose.

the desensitizing is there agreed, but its not right, we can not allow teh action of a few crooked ppl to desensitize us towards a large group which has these bad apples.

I always thought that was a part of education and awareness..to be able to think and not blindly give into emotions.

Case in point, i cant stand israeili policies, but would never accept the killing of their innocent civilians as justified in any means. I think a similar outlook should be maintained..but too many people fall in the us versus them lameness all the time.

Before any soldier turned them in, it was this General Timbukto who had investigated the whole friggin thing and came out with a scathing report, that was making its way up the ladder (presumably on a rickshaw). So it was only a matter of time. But CBS, ofcourse, knew this is juicy stuff and pounced on it.

^ is that why the war was waged ? to get rid of Saddam so he won't kill more people ? if that is the case, I can post a list of other dictators who have and are still killing people in their countries... would US be kind enough to go and capture them and then celebrate victory by making naked human pyramids?

Exactly, do nothing and the reaction is that many more die under Saddam, this being based on past performances by Saddam.

come on now..america did not go to iraq to save iraqi people from saddam..i m sure they had better reasons

It is a postive side effect if everything works out though.

I was for the Iraq war and I am for the Iraq war now...implemetnation is falty but can be made better. strategy was right and that needs to continue. Be it Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria etc...Each place will have differnt dynamics of engagement. I fell safer now than I did when Saddam was around, post 9/11.

How was he threat to US ? and please spare me the WMD crap...

SOmeone who hates the US so vehemently, has funded suicide bombers around the middleast, defied the terms of surrender for 12 years. In the post 9/11 era, it wouldn't have taken much for this idiot to fund some terrorist to try to outshow OBL. One megalo maniac gone...I am happy. :)

SOmeone who hates the US so vehemently

I hate many things in life with passion I don't go out and kill them. BS argument.

has funded suicide bombers around the middleast

No proof ever presented to UN or to American public. Make belief stuff.

defied the terms of surrender for 12 years

Up to UN to decide not US.. US never gave a fair chance to UN

oh so based on assumptions... or did US use some system like Tom Cruse used in his movie Minority Report.

Interesting that they also include the victims of bomb attacks by Iraqi terrorists and the monthly morgue count from Baghdad, which could be just regular crime, natural death etc.
