Looks like colorful mehindi outfits are in nowadays?
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
^Yup, apparently they are. The simple days are over.
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
And aside from colorful, also full of kaam and heavy! I love it!
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
my mehendi dress was a PLAIN YELLOW ONLY thingy
no kaam no nothing with a chunri dupata with gota border thats it....
I prefer it to be simple, as the bride should be at her full glory on the baraat day :-)
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
I like i like!!!
very heavy mehndi dresses
Does anyone also feel some mehndi dresses these days have too much kaam and are too heavy and gaudy...i mean i thought traditionally the bride should be very simple on her mehndi....my bhabi went to the beauty parlor on her wedding and they totally caked her face up and she totally regretted it. i would never go to a beauty parlor for my mehndi....
what do you ladies think....also how much is a normal amount of money to spend on your mehndi jora in your opinion.
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
i said it before and i will say it again, i prefer mehndi dresses to be very simple, as the brides pure glamor has to arise on the baraat day...
i wore a TOTALLY plain yellow outfit without a single lace or kaam on it
I love plain yellow dresses with a bit of gota.
I did go to the parlour to get my hair done in a very simple style and dupatta pinned
for my dholki hosted by someone else I wore a paranda with white rube roses giving the interwined look as no motia were available :(
I agree with others here.. I think mehndi dress should be simple and elegant. I wore a litle bit of makeup for my mehndi for pictures.. and wore a somewhat simple yellow (lemon) color dress. Secondly, I got a lot of mehndi on my dress as well so i didn't regret it for being to heavy as I got my mehndi done during my mehndi event.
For my dholki I did a little bit heavier dress (this was two weeks before) but everyone complemented me for my mehndi dress.. :)
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
I think things have really evolved over the past few years. You no longer have to wear yellow on your mehndi. More and more girls now dress-up, wear a bit of make-up, jewellery, basically anything and everything goes.
The first thing you have to consider is what you pictured yourself in and what suits you. If you pictured a non-yellow OTT jora then why not stick with it?
Secondly, how big of an event will it be? If it's a bigger event with guests from both sides then you may want to do something more than a simple yellow jora.
Third, what can you afford to spend? Your budget ultimately influences what you buy.
For my mehndi I'm breaking all the traditional rules - jora is peach, plum, shocking pink, and aqua/green. Will be getting hair and make-up done (keeping it simple though, nothing dramatic, lots of kajal, nude lips, paranda). Will also be wearing earrings and a teeka. It's being held at the same venue as the shaadi so it's the size of a small wedding (we have a huge family).
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
I dont think it matters anymore.
Do what you want! Wear what you want and enjoy your events by experimenting with different looks...so much fun. :)
I wore candy pink and bright orange on my mehndi...it was fabulous because no one else wore those colors. I had light kaam on the outfit and wore huge pink earrings. Traditionally, people wear green or yellow to a mehndi but I wanted to stand out. I did get my hair and make up done but kept the look very neutral/simple along with a paranda.
My sister is wearing my mom's kamkhaab gharara on her mehndi...with a fuschia colored shirt and dupatta. It looks awesome...Mashallah.
There are no rules...have fun...feel beautiful and enjoy your day!
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
I will be wearing simple yellow for the mayoon, but a heavy non-tradional pishwas in pink, plum, green colours and a bit of yellow. I dont know why but i dont feel like wearing a simple yellow on the mehndi day. Also i think the pictures will come out great if i have other colours on me.
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
what happened to those simple brides in Mendhi - with very nice simple plain outfits.. i swear brides loooked so much better simple in mendhi - but now a days, sometimes u cant tell the difference between wedding/mendhi with the amt of makeup, jewelery and clothes they wear...
p.s completely agree with Korn666's post !!
Re: Mehndi colours - Orange/sunset
Thanks zainy :)
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
I think the times have changed, and people have changed. When ever I attend a mehndi now, people are very surprised if the bride is wearing a simple suit. I have to admit, I am surprised as well. I think a splash of colour looks really good, and a little bit of light makeup really helps for the pictures.
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
i dont mind the fancy mehndi suits, but im not a big fan of heavy makeup on the mehndi. for me, it just removes the noor on the face and the true happiness is masked with all that makeup. and u wont get that "oohs" and "aahs" on ur wedding day since people already saw u "as a bride". simple makeup is nice. Just my opinion.
on my mehndi, i wore a sea green outfit (my inlaws gave me a suit when they came over for the baat paki, and i just wore that), got a facial the day before (so my skin was still glowing), put some mascara and some vaseline, braided my hair in a paranda and i good to go!
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
I think plain to kaam waley suits with gotta look nice but its when you cant tell if its the mehndi or the reception that you know its gone over board.
I'm doing makeup for my mehndi but subtle like I usually have it when I go out.
Re: very heavy mehndi dresses
see i think these days the guests are so dressed up u cant tell who the bride is...so for that reason i think a little extra is needed to stand out....i mite keep the traditional look for the mayoon/dholki but for the main mehndi event id prefer to go all out...LOTS of colour so ppl know yup thats the bride...i dnt want to be dressed in the same colour as everyone else :D
I think everybody would know your the bride as hopefully you'd be the only one with a dupatta on your head.
