I think west did played its part to cover various aspects of desi culture. Their writers wrote much more about our culture than our own writers. Writers like William Darlymple wrote on subjects from Delhi’s culture to sufi / spiritual traditions in our part of the world. The problem lies with Desi psyche who started detesting their values. Commercialisation of Desi festivals can also created interest in people, as we see in case of Indian soaps which promoted Bindi and stuff even in Pakistan

problem is we are much more flexible regarding losing our identity that is in the name of liberalism.
do you think that amount of coverage given to easteran cultures and religious rituals by western media is same as our media gives coverage to western trends?
you would hardly see BBC’s coverage on muslims’ eid festival more than 5 five minute on whole.
no coverage for such festivals on thier local transmission lines. Our media transmision quality is way poor than quality of transmision of their local media.
