saw some posters on my way from Tanzeem Islami mentioning Valentine Day as promoting be-hayai and indecency in the society. Someone told that a religious organisation is going to celebrate hayaa (Modesty) day tomorrow.
What do you think about this approach? Isn’t it another way of promoting this Valentines day?
Whats with the media promoting such days as mega event? Is it commercialism or there is some saazish against our cultural values?
Oh yeah.. Saw a post on fb.. its not about promoting or anything like that... its just to make people realise tht what doing is not our culture... celebrating haya day means showing this is what our culture is... and if they manage to do it in a proper way.. it will be a big tamacha on those people's face who forgot their values... forgot the difference between halaal and haraam...
I don't 'celebrate' it because I find it utterly cheesy. But I don't think those who celebrate it by just making a little extra effort for their loved ones are doing anything haram.
there are 365 days in an year.. you can do whatever you want… then why only Valentine’s day… there are chaand raat as well… and talking about loved ones.. we love our parents too our siblings and kids too.. then why not flowers or gifts for them..
Please go search why do people celebrate valentine’s day.. whats the story behind it.. you will het your answer
And I know the story behind it, but now its a totally commercialized holiday and there’s absolutely nothing kafir-like about exchanging something with your ‘halal’ partner.
^ why not? I have cousins who have been married for over 15 years and they exchange flowers and stuff on valentines, anniversaries and birthdays.
Again, I thought it was all about our intentions? If my intentions are to worship some saint then that'd make it haram, no?
right. Its all about intentions and I don't think that anyone here in our part of the world celebrate it to worship the Saint. The probem is the way it is commercialised and given importance over our cultural values.
In Pakistan, Musharaf’s enlightened moderation introduce and popularised such concepts. I remember when back in late 90s ‘Dil to Pagal hai’ was released, we didn’t a little idea whats Valentine Day (as they shown celebrating it in the movie).
Whats the status of this day in India? When people started celebrating it? Are there any groups who oppose celebrating it?
