I have just launched a website from Canada.Its a website in Urdu for women. Purpose of the site is to provide the Urdu speaking women the kind of information they can not get untill one is exposed to the English media.
But apart from that i also want to use it to earn some money. Is there any one who can provide me some guidance in this connection.

Local businesses. Try to contact local desi businesses to advertise on your website but of course you'll have to promote your site first good.

I am trying to promote it through mailing friends and family and distributing flyers.do you suggest anything else which is not very expensive.

Local newspapers... Especially the Urdu ones.
Write a press release and send it to them. Colored flyers (Here in Chicago they cost about $0.10) on the local shops' windows also bring a lot of new visitors to the site.
Keep your site as simple and to-the-point possible at first and change the design as it grows.

I am greatfull for the feedback and would appreciate some more ideas.
The flyers are colored and i am distributing them on local desi businesses such as grocery stores, Flea Market and restaurants.

Why don’t u put Google ads on the site. Once the site picks up traffic you should start making money.

I am not permitted to post either the URL or name of my site on this forum for certain period by the moderator.
I have some ads from ad sense and working hard to build traffic. But the only way i can think of doing so is through flyers and emails.
But it seems its working because my tracking record show 50 - 70 visits every day, which i consider encouraging for a website which has been launched for 6 weeks with no publicity budget.

yeh zindagi, you don't have enough ads on your site, add some more. No need to worry about content for now, just push a lot of ads to whoever visits your site.

By adds do you mean the affiliate links like that from Amazon or Ad sense i already have or are you suggesting ads from local business owners?
And yes i have also read a lot about people who are earning thousands every month through ad sense.
I wonder if there is some one out there who has done that in reality.

Belive me Adsense can change your life style within a year, if you can do hard work to build traffic for your site so just forget about income for next few months and do start hard work now for your website, i can surely 100% tell your earning will more than 3000 US $ after 7-8 months.
You know what? i tell you one thing very honestly from my heart, your case is same like my case 
I had also decided to earn income from my websites in late 2004, then i decided to join Google Adsense and now this is my side by side business. Honestly speaking now my earning is more than 12000 US$ per month and guess what ? now I really do not need to do hard work on my websites coz i had already been doing work on my sites for past one year to build heavy traffic and believe me i was alone at that time, now i’ve kept employees few months back who r my friends they work on my websites, they still do not know why do i pay them for non commercial sites where we provide free stuffs to users 
but one thing is sure they r totally Kaamchor. Always keep one thing in your mind Google is always honest with honest people but if you will try to make them fool they will surely kick you out within few days so always be honest with Google, i’m telling this very honestly frm my personal experience with Google and believe me I’ve bought 2 luxury cars within a year with my own income earned from Adsense what i had never expected in my life frm any other business that is also just in 2 years. Now Google is like God for me coz Google has provided each & everything to me within 2 years and that’s the reason i always respect google and follow each and every rules & regulation of Google :D…
If you can do hardwork alone so just build traffic for your site and join one of the following trustworthy scheme tested passed by me.
