a while ago, i was in a debate about people who “are Muslim but dont live as proper Muslim.” The debate was whether or not we should accept these people as Muslims or not.
in my opinion, i think, as many others do, all Muslims are brothers and sisters. unfortunetly, no matter how hard we try, no one is perfect and everyone makes mistakes and sins in life.
an example used in the debate was musicians, mainly hip-hop artist and entertainers. tho there are many, some that no one would guess are heres a few:
Akon
Beanie Sigel
Mos Def
T-Pain
Lupe Fiasco
Ice Cube
Scarface
Jermaine Jakcson (frm the jackson 5)
DJ Khaled
Everlast
Mike Tyson
*]Dace Chappelle
do you think we should accept these people as our brothers and not regaurd their lack of worship?
who are we to 'accept people as Muslims or not'? That's up to Allah Mian.
the word muslim was never meant to be a title of any kind in the Quran... it is a description, just like mu'min is a description and kaafir is a description.

Yea, but who are we to say who is truly a Muslim and who is not? Allah(swt) decides who goes to heaven and hell, and so he decided also who is truly a Muslim and who is not.

we cannot... hence we cannot compell anyone to do anything, including marrying outside of those labelled as "Muslim". It is upto the individual... that is what I am trying to say.
phatima: you made a good point. it is initially His decision. But im talking abt just accepting one another for who we are rather than over analize everything and everyone. and thanx for the correction
**hareem: **thats exactly how i look at it. when ever i meet a muslim, i greet him/her by saying (wishing peace on him/her). i never stop to think “this person is not a good muslim. he/she doesnt deserve blessings”
**robert **and hypnotix: i didnt mean to call the word “Muslim” as a lable. i just meant that some people think of it as just a lable and nothing more.
Those that do wrong might be Fasiq (Sinner) but they are not Kafir (Rejecter).
You can't label someone a Kafir because they sin, it is up to Allah to forgive them or punish them.
However those that claim to be Muslim yet reject a ruling of Islam e.g. a man claims alcohol is not a bad thing and/or is Halal (permissible) has become a Kafir even if he doesn't actually drink alcohol, on the other hand if somebody actually drinks alcohol yet accepts it as wrong and he accepts that the Islamic ruling is right then he is just a sinner, not a Kafir.
The former has no chance of salvation unless he repents and amends, whilst in the case of the latter it is up to Allah to forgive Him because he is not giving precedence to his own views over Allah's, even if he is physically erring he is accepting the Sovereignty of Allah in his heart and Allah forgives all sins except setting up equals with Him.
Are you sure some of the guys in your list are not NOI (Nation of Islam)? That's a racist anti-white black-nationalist cult and has very little to do with Islam.
Are any of them mainstream Muslims?
I don't know why you've got Jermaine Jackson in the list though, he was on Big Brother and he never left his Mussalla, the guy has Noor on his face, when he was comforting Shilpa Shetty after the White housemates were bullying her he told her to not be so undressed around him because he's a Muslim, of course she being a Hindu went into a hissy fit "batbatding I du vatever I vanting...", ungreatful ***** I tell you, especially after he was the only one in the house who treated her decently, despite her sucking upto the rest of them and referring to the other chicks as her sister...
oki well heres an example...
Akon... is a muslim. he prays 5 times a day, he has 4 wives (i know thats not a reqirement) he does not smoke nor does he drink and he has made that evident many times. he doesnt wear jewelry like many other celebs. and he has never worn a cross. But, he is very verbal about sex and his videos would lead one to believe he is not a muslim...

what is your definition of the word muslim... perhaps that is more important.
another example:
DJ Khaled... a musician on the rise. He is proud of his name and wears it high. He is always rocking his "ALLAH (swt) chain... though jewelry for men is forbidden.
A muslim brother/sister is one who believes there is no God but ALLAH (swt) and that Prophet Muhammad (saw) is His last messenger....
good, so why would any of the above conditions be any problematic if this is your definition? I am asking logically. If you do have a problem with him doing this, then your definition needs more elaboration.

oh yea I agree. It is our duty only to inform others and once they know what is acceptable by Islam, they can make the decision for themselves. If it was our job to force them, then there would be no point in God giving us free will.
