So says my man mohan Singh, we can talk with Pakistan.

But no one should forget that 10 foot long pole that moved India, in fact came straight form the good ole USA. First USA quietly asked India to “cooperate”. When India refused, the US of A issued the travel advisory and fired a shot across India’s bow. Chidambram sahib said, my-baap kion kurtay ho yeh travel advisoryian. Hum to bohot naik Paak hain.

But the US pressure is on and India is singing.

If you all remember, USA used the same tactic on India when the Indians were all gung ho while massing 1000s of troops on Pak border. Just a hint, back then good ole Gen Powell was at the helms of State Department.

Now Hillory pulled the same weapon and Indians are singing.

NEW DELHI: Putting speculation at rest, India Friday said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh would meet Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari in the Russian city of Yekaterinburg next week, but clarified there would no resumption of talks till Islamabad takes tangible action against terrorists.
“They will be in the same place at the same time. They will meet, but we are not clear what sort of meeting it would be,” Foreign Secretary Shivshankar Menon told reporters when asked whether Manmohan Singh would meet Zardari in Yekaterinburg.

Before election " We need action, no peace talks, we will attack Pakistan if required"

After election " We want friendship, we need to resolve issues "

If elections weren't so close, Pakistan India relations would have been much better even after Mumbai attack.

Contrary to selective comprehension by Pakistanis, I don't see any change in India's stance towards Pak :)

Actually, they had earlier stated that the Indian govt would not meet the Pak counterparts till they acted on so called terrorists. Yet here we are months later, and no one has been arrested or tried, and Monmohan saab is of having meeting wth Zardari! lol. :D

AFAIK, Indian govt said peace talks would not be resumed till Pa stops cross border terrorism. That stance has not changed.

Casual/social meetings on the side at a neutral event were never talked about :)

People of Pakistan should read the one on one interview that Obama gave to Dawn. He has clarified in no uncertain terms his now changed stance on Kashmir which is "US is not getting into this".

Other reports, too numerous and common so I don't have to quote them here.have clearly established that the number one discussion India, USA, France or anyone else that meets with Zardari these days, is the war on terrorism and stabilizing Pakistan.

USA may be able to push Pakistan around but they can't do the same with India. Obama may not have been clear on this in the beginning but is now amply clear.He has been made to change stance on Holbrooke (limited to AfPak as opposed original proposal), Kashmir (now he has been reverted to the USA not getting into it) etc. The Israelis are pretty mad at him and strategists have told his administration to tread lot more carefully.

No surpirse there. Kashmir is an issue that doesnt effect America directly.

But if you think India cant be pushed around by the US, then your delusional.

And ultimately, if Americas foreign policy does not jive with the Pakistanis, then Pakistan has the same options.

Again, India should understand its place.:)

Pakistan does absolutely nothing about it despite pressure from India and the US.

Usually when Indians say they wont have peace talks, it means casual meetings are also off. Certainly was the case in 2002.

I guess its not so much a change of policy as it is a complete disregad for Indian self respect:hehe:

Manmohan Sigh was very blunt in his meeting with Zardari and told him in no uncertain terms that all he had come to say was that Pak should not allow its soil to be used for terrorist activities against India :slight_smile:

Poor Zardari was so sheepish that he skipped the next meeting with MMS. Looks like news media in Pak reported an different story for domestic consumption :wink:

Malik Ahmad Khan said Pakistan had asked the Indian government not to resort to “aggressive media statements” and clear the air by talking directly with Pakistan instead of using the media. “I would still ask India to come to talks as engagements would be fruitful rather than estrangements,” he said.

Pakistan will never allow any force to use its soil for terrorist activities directed against any country, he said.

“During the past six months, Indian officials uttered some inappropriate statements about their certain reservations which were totally against diplomatic norms,” Khan said.
