US to hire Saddam's butchers / Baathist are good guys again? (MERGED)

Well now that the genocidal foreign terrorists i.e. the US military, is surpassing Saddam in the killing stakes, this comes as no surprise.

***Gen Abizaid said there has been an additional push to get senior officers from the old Iraqi military, disbanded last year, to take senior positions in the Iraqi chain of command in an attempt to bring more professionalism to the force. The move appeared a reversal of elements of the US’s de-Baathification policy, although the general said he has personally been involved in vetting the new appointments.

“In the next couple of days, you’ll see a large number of senior officers being appointed to key positions in the ministry of defence and in the Iraqi joint staff and in Iraqi field commands,” he said. “I can tell you the competition for these positions has been fierce.”***

"[M]ore professionalism" simply means we need people that have experience in threatening unwilling soldiers into action.

Utterly unsurprising. The recent intifada has shown that the current leaders of Iraq's army cannot get their men to open fire on other Iraqis.

Looks like the USA is hiring back those who have got experience of just how to do that :)

Of course it is. As the article says the move appeared a reversal of elements of the US's de-Baathification policy. Who has better experience in threatening unwilling soldiers into action, if not Saddam's butcher generals?

You never know. Just look at how they are now embracing Saddam-like dictators in other parts of the world, whom they had once condemnded as the greatest terrorists threats in the world.

Iraq - Baathist are good guys again (?) :open_mouth:

Another change of policy. Now Baath party members are again eligible to become part of government. Good job! One at a time, keep reversing everything. Now that US sees how influential shias will be in a post-war Iraq, they are looking at all avenues to bring sunnis back into the ring.

Policy easing to bring Baathists into new Iraq](CNN.com - Policy easing to bring Baathists into new Iraq - Apr 22, 2004)

The White House confirmed Thursday that the administration is moving to change a postwar policy that blocked members of Saddam Hussein’s Baath Party from Iraqi government and military positions.

The sweeping ban was put in place by civilian administrator Paul Bremer, but he now wants to change the policy as part of an effort to convince Sunnis, who dominate the party, that they are welcome members of the postwar political transition in Iraq.

There also have been complaints that the ban has kept teachers, engineers, well-trained technocrats and experienced military officers out of the difficult postwar transition.

Jalebi has no more than 0% support in Iraq as well.

No kiddin... Problem is, there won't be any elections on June 30. So its a race amongst lobbyists. Thats all. Who cares who has support or not. Karzai probably had a similar level of support in Afghanistan when he was given the role of US' whore in Kabul.

Yes, and that is why the Shias have also now risen against the American occupiers, becuase they realise that they will be sold out again.

The timing of this move is critical - this announcement comes at a juncture when the sunnis and the shias have unified against US. Is it in someway designed to cause split? Though the shias were offered a very major role in the givernment by banning the Baath party, they still rose against the Coalation. Is this move designed to cause a division, in some way, among the two groups?

confettiguy... duh! :-D

US has practically gifted Iraq's oil and resources to Iran. Its a rear-guard action to salvage some thing.

Update…

Former generals of Saddams regime reinstated to new US-trained army

Iraqi generals who fought for Saddam Hussein are being reinstated to strengthen the new US-trained Iraqi army half of whose soldiers mutinied or went home during fighting earlier this month. More than half a dozen generals from the old Iraqi army, dissolved by the US-led Coalition last May, have already been given jobs say American officials according to the US press. Former members of the Baath party will also be employed in the government. The abrupt reversal of previous policy comes as a senior US general admitted that 10 per cent of the Iraqi security services actually changed sides during recent fighting and another 40 per cent went home.

Now that the US has reappointed Saddam’s bloody generals, maybe Bush will end up adopting his attire as well? He does have somewhat of a resemblance to him, I believe?

Terrorist outrages have been carried out against the Shia population, that have been blamed on outsiders who want to stir up Shia-Sunni hatred. They have failed, as the Shia's have always ended up blaming the American's for these atrocities, and so will this attempt.
