WASHINGTON – U.S. military advisers, mostly Army Special Forces soldiers, are training Pakistani troops in their fight against al-Qaida and the Taliban, The New York Times reported Sunday.

The secret U.S. task force provides the Pakistanis with intelligence and advises them on combat tactics, but does not participate in combat itself, the Times reported, citing anonymous U.S. military officials.

Pakistani army officers said last year that the Pentagon had sent 32 Americans to train senior personnel of the paramilitary Frontier Corps in the northwestern part of the country, adjacent to Afghanistan.

On its Web site Sunday, the Times reported that the effort was larger and more ambitious than previously acknowledged, involving more than 70 U.S. advisers, including combat medics, communications experts and other specialists.

A commando unit within the Frontier Corps has used information from the Central Intelligence Agency and other sources to kill or capture as many as 60 militants in recent months, the newspaper said.

Gen. Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, the chief of Pakistan’s army, is visiting Washington this week as the White House and the Pentagon review U.S. strategy in Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Allah Rahem Karey!!!

Alhamdulilallah. This is very good news. May the cooperation between the two great nations against terrorists continue. May Alla (swt) give them success against evil of terrorism that is emanating from Pakistan. Ameen.

For you only mercenary !

The training is for Frontier Corps (those who wear shalwar kameez) not for actual army. General Kiyani is doing the right thing, by not letting the western so-called trainers to train Army Soldiers because they are already best trained in the world. Neither we are going to finish taliban/extremeists once for all, we need them until America/Nato is in our region, as a viable force of resistance. Yes we are taking money/technology from west for the hardware which we need to enhace our forces capabilities, period !

Looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooool :rotfl:

Well he is going to USA to meet US Generals.

So that will change his mind.

The Pakistani Army is woefully under trained as shown by their mass surrenders to Taliban terrorists, heavy casualties sustained in fighting, lack of proper equipment and using World War II tactics to fight a guerrilla force.

You love laughing too much, lets get your facts here. What the heck Nato/American gain in Afghanistan until today? Do they have balls to go out from Kabul?

FYI, if Pakistan stop supporting so called War on Terrorism today, western forces in Afghanistan die like mosquitoes by the hand of Taliban’s !

So called mightiest army Generals are saying and pissing in the pants now: we can’t win the Afghan war,… Please send more troops, .. we need political solutions.. What you say on it?

At least Pak Army is doing thousand times better without resources/tech avaiable to western forces, so give credit where its due !

General Kiyani is meeting with Americans/NATO every day, and they can’t change his mind. Pak Army don’t need any specialize training from west, period.

Get your facts right, Pak Army never surrender to Taliban’s, its all FC soldiers. Please enligten me what kind a tactics US/NATO forces are using in Afghainstan which make them limited only to Kabul and western generals are pissing in the pants ?

Watch this documentary and see by yourself what is Pak Army and what is FC. What kinda tactics/equipment used by Pak army. Get the facts first then start dancing again:

Re: US Special Forces training Pakistani Troops

This is not the First time this is happening ...... so Y so Surprise, this is a Normal part in all the world Armies, Chines Soldiers come to train in Pakistan, even Americans Too come to train here. This is just a Normal Act in the Armies of the World..

Officers are going every where for courses even when their was sanscations against Pakistan. That’s a normal procedure, 40+ countries officers come to Command and Staff College, Quetta every year for training too.

Actually its mostly French and German troops that are deployed in Kabul. American, Canadian and British are deployed in the far flung regions.

FYI, if Pakistan stopped supporting the war on terrorism, then pakistani territory which is hosting these militants would be bombed by B-52 bombers and not little drone attacks. All of FATA would be fair game.

1,000 times better...

USA has lost like 600 soldiers in Afghanistan after fighting for more than 7 years where as Pakistan has lost over 3,000 in 4 years of fighting and that with repeated truces...

How many US soldiers have surrendered ? 0

How many Pakistani Soldiers have surrendered? 1,000

Please get a grip

you sound like a 10 year old kid who has watched too many Pakistani Army commericals and are incapable of separating truth from fiction

Of course they do. Our SSG, SSGN, SSW are all based on training and models from USA and UK.

Do you even have the basic knowledge about the Pakistani Army?

And they are not part of the Pakistani Military Apparatus?

Again how are they limited to Kabul?

Please enlighten me…

I have already seen this documentary and many more on the subject

The Pakistani Army needs massive training to deal with this kind of warfare.

The Pakistani Army was designed for large scale conventional warfare against India and not for a guerrilla campaign against this kind of forces.

But again, you would already know that.

The only thing the Pakistani military is trained at is signing surrender treaties lol

Re: US Special Forces training Pakistani Troops

They have had a good amount of experience in Iraq, so im sure they have much to share..

May be they should train US military, coalition forces first how to fight Taliban and AlQaida. 7 years have gone by US/coalition still don’t control more than 40% of Afghanistan and they want to train Pakistani forces how to fight Taliban :omg:

Re: US Special Forces training Pakistani Troops

^^ well thats because of sanctuaries in Pakistan....if they were not there then mullah omar would have no where to run to on his honda motorbike

They also trainined S. Vietnamese army.. the less said the better.

Yeah sure, sanctuaries in Pakistan are so well equipped, funded, armed that they supply everything to Taliban even in far western parts, all the opium fields are also run and operated from the sanctuaries etc.

Thats because the American went off on their adventure in Iraq… Also, besides the fact that the Taliban have only regained some steam after a number of years following their defeat in Afghanistan, the US cant fight terrorists hiding in FATA… Hence the need to train Pakistani forces to do the job.
Otherwise, the US has been pretty succesful in its anti insurgency efforsts. The Surge in Iraq obviously worked (as much as I hate to admit it), and the drone attacks within Pak have killed some really big name terrorists.
