Goodness Gracious me. Really!!!

I did not know that Eid ul Adha is only Sunni Muslims’ holy day …

All my life, I celebrated this Eid day with my Shia friends and neighbours helping them slaughtering their animals…

finding Shia youngsters protecting our Eid Gaah during those bloody days of Karachi and vice versa… Finding about Shia’s Eid salaah timing so that I know when to visit them…

All over CNN news on TV during Saddam Execution coverage…

Some indian reporter was idiot enough to point it out as well saying Shias are celebrating and irony being it’s Sunni’s holy day of Eid…

Then every reporter started doing the same mantra…

Yes a real bad reporting....Aneesh Raman was over excited and kept jumping up and down with his "own expert opinion on Eid & Muslim Funeral Laws"....Infact once they showed a clip on those leaders that have been executed by hanging ,they reported on Bhutto but wrongly showed a 10 seconds long clip on Nawaz Sharif..

something i wrote two year ago, regarding importance of respecting and understanding local culture by conquering nations…

Britain had this fine art of commanding people of their occupied territories. When they were a superpower, they ruled about half of the world and majority of people obeyed them. In comparison American forces were never been able to get any respect or acceptance from conquered (read liberated) nations.

There can be several reasons, but I want to discuss one of them.

The respect and importance given to local cultural norms and language

In the days when radio was popular medium, Voice of Germany, Voice of America and Radio Moscow, always lagged behind in popularity and reliability of BBC’s world service. There can be several reasons for this, and one of them was that, they had earned respect and love from their occupied colonies for their gentlemanly behavior.

With satellite TV started to reach every country, BBC capitalized on its good reputation and in coming years established it self among the most popular TV channels. Apart from their news coverage and documentaries, I think main reason is that people around the globe trust them. Which CNN or other channels lack.

And now in the age of internet, they started of late but still got immensely popular because of their strategy.
Being local for the world, is the key to popularity.

For me their website is one of the best, they provide news and it is a klaleidoscope of visual and interactive information. :k:

Americans, on the other hand try to present their prospective instead of presenting broader view. They also lack local familiarity with language and culture.

Right now we have bunch of cable news channels, repoters and their self claim of being the "Most Trusted" "Fair and Balanced" "Most watched" etc but reality is they have no idea what to do with so many hours of non-stop broadcasting. Not every news station can know and be expert on every issue. They should just keep telecasting what they know best, which is government propaganda.

Walter Cronkite was needed this weekend.

The worst coverage regarding Saddam was broadcasting the "We got him" clip..over and over..and over.. when mouthing about the sucessfull hearing and sentence handed down by the Iraqi courts.

Duh??

Kudoo the Iraqi courts and at the same time give the military powers that be a pat on the back..

Doesn't seem wise at all.

^ I don't think its because of that, rather reporters'/journalists/think-tanks coming up with their own reasoning without proper research/investigation everytime they see something 'interesting' out there.
