US green card

Re: US green card

Not sure how the 2nd part of you post works. I m one of them and had nothing handed to me. I have worked very hard for the past 12 years to get what I have.

Re: US green card

This applies to me.My parents went back to Pakistan after living for a decade or more in the US.I came back to the US and nothing was given to me as a benefit or just handed to me.I have never received any grant living here or there.
Would you elaborate on what you mean…?..Just for the sake of curiosity…

Re: US green card

i think she means stuff like student loans from fannie mae, or even pvt banks, FAFSA etc.. if you are a citizen or have a green card, you qualify for one or more of these. if you are here on a non-immigrant visa, caught in the priority date pipeline forever, you just keep paying your taxes and social security forever and don’t receive any of these benefits.

Re: US green card

^^Yeah maybe. But that does not mean ‘everything being handed to them’.That implies something being given and said jao beta aaish karo. And that is not the case.Yeah GC holders and citizens might have a slight benefit when it comes to student loans etc but its not something they get for free and others do not.

Re: US green card

i know right. wendy is being mean as usual. :nono4:

Re: US green card

^^Now I never said that…!!!..
Lets not derail the thread. So how does one get a green card by just coming to the US once a year…!!!

Re: US green card

This was uncalled for. I wanna write something mean in reply to this. Naw.

Re: US green card

Never got any grants since I got into grad school in the US. Would be sweet if I could since I still have to pay back all the loans I received.

Re: US green card

Exactly. I m amazed at stuff like this when people don’t think about what they are saying could hurt others.

Re: US green card

I blame her Nordic side.

Re: US green card

here is the thing. you still got loans. my wife wanted to get a loan for her grad school, but no one would give her one coz a GC is a pre-req. and then there is the whole deal where if it is a student loan, your repayment terms are so flexible, with interest being tax exempt and what not. i was super mad for a few days, so can sorta see where wendy is coming from. she just worded it wrong. nordics, thinking they can still be vikings.. :\

Re: US green card

I dont think she used the word loans. She is talking about grants. Dont know how flexible is the repayment schedule since I m paying the loans while in school and the loans are accumulating interest while I m still in school as well.

Re: US green card

they don’t :hehe:

Re: US green card

:rotfl:

@JoelKhan, sorry if I offended you .. that was not my intention at all.

@Saeed, sorry again! Just pisses me off sometimes.

Re: US green card

I can’t find any either. They’d make my life a lot easier for sure.

Re: US green card

It shouldn’t. It’s not like I or my parents broke some law. Getting the citizenship was just a happy coincidence.

Re: US green card

I was talking about those who actually came her JUST to have a kid (who’d be given american citizenship) and then left the country. I’m actually talking from personal experience of people I know. Believe it or not, they came back to the US .. with NO plans to work hard and make money, and are given financial aid by the government simply because thats their right as citizens. If you, or JoelKhan, or chips don’t fall under this category of people taking advantage of it then good for you! I didn’t intend to attack anyone at all
Now let’s all just be happy

Re: US green card

I’m sure there are plenty of people who grew up in the US and still do all of the above. It’s a personality trait, and it has nothing to do with growing up in Pakistan.

Re: US green card

ok i got the answer this thread shoud be closed now
