Plus have you seen how famous Punjabi is becoming. Every other Indian movie has a Punjabi or Punjabi influenced song in it. Dil Bole Hadippa was heavily influenced by the Punjabi language. In general if we think about it, Punjabi is really famous. Even more than urdu. People listen to Punjabi songs but they so not know what it means and then ask their Punjabi friends for translation. Thank god for Imran Khan and Amar Arshi etc.
Oh and as for poetry, urdu is a relatively new language. All the great poetry has been done in Farsi and Punjabi. History is Punjab is rich and diverse and like I said we have a very rich culture.
