Before partition, urdu was considered as muslim's language. Even punjabi or sindhi muslims used the urdu script. After partition, bengali was the only language, not using urdu script. Qaid-e-Azam once said that bengalis should drop bengali language because it has hindi influence and adopt urdu. That statement caused uproar among bengali leaders and later Jinnah had to appologise (year 1948).
