So many words in Urdu from Persian origin that were common in writing and speaking have now become obsolete. People started using English words or Hindi words for those Persian words. Example Tashtri / Rakaabi is replaced with plate / thaali/ piyali.
Is Urdu getting de-persianised?
What will be the impact of this trend on language after 2-3 decades?
Will we be able to carry Persian / Arabic alphabets and Rasm ul Khat? Or it will also get Romanised as is done online and in text messages?
The problem is with the literature that has been written for almost two centuries. With heavy usage of English words in Urdu, today’s generation is unable to read Urdu literature written 50 years back.
With the advent of satellite channels having Hindi cartoons, the newer generation is more conversant/comfortable with Hindi as compared to Urdu. If it continues then yes we are moving more towards Hindiized kind of Urdu.

We need to work on cartoons. Indians have targeted the segment which is easy to mould. Sapna, Sindoor, Mangal sooter and other words like that are well known in Pakistani homes now.
I remember reading an article a couple of years ago. The writer went to a marriage and a kid was asking his mother when they will have the seven chakkar.

Interesting point is that Shah Iran during his visits to Pakistan in 196s and 1970s felt that Persian as spoken and used in Pakistan was from the era when Humayon got refuge in Iran during 16th century. The Persian spoken in Iran had gone through major changes in between.
