Re: Urdu is Dead
Yes quite true…
But again Karb-e-Agahi is also not the sort of word, younger generation uses in every day speech !
Its simple, in order to enjoy the exuberance of the language you need to know meanings of words and phrases.

Re: Urdu is Dead
You are off by miles. Agahi is as in knowledge, ashnaii is as in aquaintance(sp?)
Re: Urdu is Dead
utter blasphemy. go wash your mouth.
BTW arent u one opinionated twit, if your urdu skills suck, it does not mean it is dead. By your logic all languages that u do not comprehend are dead as well.
Re: Urdu is Dead
ok smartass…but to be ‘well-acquainted’ with something means to have knowledge of it? they more or less mean the same thing…ashanai (acquaitance) is not used in just one restricted sense of ‘waqfiyat’ that u r implying.
in fact, even waqfiyat cud be used to mean have knowledge of anythng.
Re: Urdu is Dead
I think the reason you are going wrong is because you are translating an urdu word into english and then translating the english meaning back into urdu. It all depends on the context and since I have not seen the play PcG mentioned, i can not be sure, but the writer of the play would know dont you think?
Re: Urdu is Dead
Yesterday at a party, the discussion turned towards the Pakistani experiment of teaching pure sciences in urdu language. Right on the spot, we tried translating a common internet terminology..
VPN - Virtual Private Network
MZR - Majaazi Zaati Raabta
^ Anywhere close, all you GS urdu-daans? Purely, academic, mind you. :)
Re: Urdu is Dead
its true that ptv standard is going down .. but in terms they are following or in a best description running after “westen” culture… this a breeze in desert.. that if they goes with something which actually belongs to us but not to “englismen”
and Ghalib will not be agree with u
because karb (actually Qarab because it starts with “Qaaf” as in Quide-e-azam not with “kaaf” as kamra) so
Qarb-e- agahi is the right word :k: and use in not so “classic urdu” but in daily part of speech depends on the topic ![]()
Re: Urdu is Dead
well than its not the fault of Ptv or Urdu language.. nor its something young and old generation Gap.. the only problem here is “laziness” and going far from our culture and heritage.. just “showing off” being “unique” and “trende followers” that hey if u can speak english (or any foriegn language) people will praise u.. oh look how well educated and modern u r..
plus we are not aware who we actually are… our history and heritage is ? who have time for this non-sense? right?
Those.. who are still “un civillized” and non-sense conservatives .. they stilll use this kind of vocabulary… daily, anytime, all the time and any where ![]()
Re: Urdu is Dead
Khayali (takhayulati) niji raabta (“jaal” be ho sakta hai)

Re: Urdu is Dead

its like Bhullai Shah watching Romeo and Jullet and saying English is dead!!
Re: Urdu is Dead
can anyone read in urdu?? i cant and my parents never forced me to learn
Re: Urdu is Dead
hmmm … because they know u are using all of ur energy to learn English (plus any other foreign e.g french ,german, itlalianor any other euro. language) which makes u “well educated” person.. plus u’ll be able to “earn more”..
so why waste time to learn something which will not give u anything…
not even ur culture;) so great !! mojan karo ![]()
Re: Urdu is Dead
Its strange to know that so many urdu speaking parents go through so much pain to take their childrens for after school activities and birthdays, but they do not find time to take them for one hour in week to learn Urdu.
I also know many children who are raised in Westren countries and can not even read Quran in Arabic.
Re: Urdu is Dead
