why doesnt the army come out of the barracks to control the situation and choas? they arent competent to take on a professional army, but cmon surely they can take on these street hooldrums..
deployment of army at this stage would act like a catalyst, especially in Sindh.
Hyderabad and surrounding area of Kotri and Jamshoro:-
more than 60 vehicles burned on Hyderabad by-pass (Just in Jamshoro). In city several buildings including banks and private vehicles burned. Telephones lines mall functioning and I couldn't get through to any of my family mobile numbers.
DIG HYderabad appealed Army to take over the city.

On Geo right now they are showing videos of people on streets burning every post of Shiekh Rashid Ahmed and Musharraf they can find. From what it looks like, its the shaher (downtown) area of Rawalpindi

how are they doing, i think you had a plan of visiting pak this month
they are doing fine, although i have to now agree with my dad who thought it was a bad idea to be in Pakistan right around now.
@X2: I hope your parents are ok, did you talk to them after the blast? And where exactly it happened?
they are fine, a little shaken but you know parents acting as if all is okay and telling us not to worry. spoke with them a few hours ago. our place has turned into a little bit of a refugee house :D uncles, cousins etc who were out and about just landed there because, so last I heard they were watchign news, having khana peena and sitting around talking.
good for everyone, ppl are safe, my folks are not alone etc.

yeah, at this stage going to Pakistan is not a good idea. I need to call few friends who were visiting Pakistan this week.

i m flying to pakistan islamabad in the 2nd week of jan. i was supposed to be going/flying to karachi 2/3 days later and seeing southern balochistan and sindh. i hope everything is ok by then. i dont wat to cancel or postpone my sindh tour. it was supposed to be a highlight.
but one thing for sure - you never know when is the wrong place and wrong time - if its written for you, then you cant fight it off. there are neer right times to be in pakistan but admittedly this last 2 months have been more insecure.
but pakistanis move on to live another day and im tryign to be optimistic too.

Although on the jang website they are saying that riots started again in the early morning hours with people taking to the streets.

2 of my cousins were heading towards Sahiwal (from Lahore) to attend a wedding. They were about 1 hour away from their destination when they nearly survived gunshots. Now they are heading back towards Lahore.
My other cousins (who are currently in Lahore) suggested them via phone to stay at a hotel in between and let the situation calm until midnight and then come back during midnight when the situation might be a little calm.
Please pray that they, along with others, are reunited with their families. Ameen. Summa Ameen.
Okara seems to be fine. These 2 cousins have reached Okara and now are moving on. They should be near Lahore by dawn InshaAllah.
Ok Alhamdulillah, they have reached home safely. They were heading from Lahore to Sahiwal (I think even a little further) to attend a wedding when all this happened and both of my cousins survived gunshots and came real close to being shot near Sahiwal. They returned from there and decided to come back to Lahore (even though Lahore's situation was no better). They have now reached home safely and are reunited with the family Alhamdulillah.

My father was near Sherpao Bridge in Lahore with my younger brother. Liberty had been closed. Roads were blocked off. I hope they have made it home safe as they had to detour thru the back alleys. I have to talk to them

I just had a conversation with Phatima1 and she updated me and said Lahore's condition is a little better than yesterday. Lahore is more calm now.

Zafur-ul-Haq road area near murree road in Pindi is peaceful.
relatives in lahore in different parts of the city have mentioned they've precatiounary shutdown their businesses and taken their motercyles inside their houses...though no trouble in their parts of neighborhood.

clarification- there weas no bomb blast near mashriq center but a number of cars had been torched and it was theri fuel tanls exploding, ppl thought they were bomb blasts.
Not that it makes me feel much better about what is going on
