Untraditional wedding

So all the desi weddings are like coming late, taking pictures with the couple, eating and running home.

any ideas to make the special day untraditional. thinking of live music. but what else can be done???

All ideas will be appreciated very much!!!

Re: Untraditional wedding

You can get performers ( a dance troop or something like that).

I also like weddings in which close friends/family make SHORT and heart-felt speeches for the bride and groom.

It would be nice to have an actual activity for people to do as well, but I haven't really seen that.

Re: Untraditional wedding

we did skits or atleast planned on it for a friends wedding kinda related to how the girl and the guy meant and only close friends knew what they were about..

also the slide show thing,

Re: Untraditional wedding

yeah we had the slide show thing...which i spent a month to make, but due to technical difficulties from the hall, they werent able to show the whole thing...really pissed me off!!lol....also my bro, hubby and cousins practiced this 10 min bhangra dance...that was awesome!

Re: Untraditional wedding

yeah no dulha dulhan, very untraditional :k: :stuck_out_tongue:

Re: Untraditional wedding

Yah we had a slideshow too, which I think is less common in Karachi (or was at the time), so people really seemed to enjoy it.

All the dances happened at the mehndi, tho I suppose saving some for the wedding would be a good idea.

Re: Untraditional wedding

Have fun and enjoy yourselves but please make sure you dont end up doing biddah in Islam. not that I am suggesting you are (No Offence)

Try not adding extra occcasions and unnecesary expenses to it

another thing to remeber is that the wedding ceremony of two muslim individuals is sawaab in itself but a very flash and expensive wedding doesnt carry much blessing from Allah (SWT), try’n keep it simple Inshallah Allah will be pleased.

:flower1:

Re: Untraditional wedding

:halo: :hoonh: shooo, bhaag jao. Allah loves show-shaw thats why muslims do all that. now go play with munni.

Re: Untraditional wedding

May Allah Help and guide You...

Re: Untraditional wedding

I say if you have the money, go for it...nothing haram about that. And I can quote various hadith where the Prophet(saww) talked about celebrating weddings, even having music there. I think i am gonna do some research.

Re: Untraditional wedding

:rotfl: now this is hilarious

Re: Untraditional wedding

ermmm..... ok so u've got live music... how abt getting an emcee?? he/she can set aside a certain hr and go around with da microphone and interview da guests (guests can talk abt da bride/groom, wish them etc)
tat way guests wud feel involved :D
and since we're at it.... u can also plan some games for da guests... how abt musical chairs? hehehehe.. i mean da kid guests :P

Re: Untraditional wedding

actually the topic of music is very iffy as its permissability is debated by scholars, so all together it is better to be avoided.

singing songs is another matter.

kani pakistani is right, and you are too barfee...you can spend lavishly but the more blessed weddings are those which are simple :)

Re: Untraditional wedding

Elope.

Re: Untraditional wedding

show up for the wedding on time. this applies to both the guests and the bride/groom and their families.
have a simple, seedi saadi wedding. no big fancy thing with a million people, and their relatives.
and drop all the hindu-adopted rasmain ...

..that's how you can be untraditional...

Re: Untraditional wedding

Have a snack bar or provide appetizers at the very beginning of the wedding, for all the people who get there early; and also to avoid a hungry crowd.

Have many buffet tables instead of one, where everyone and their mom crams in. Space the buffet tables across the hall to minimize crowding.

Have assigned seats, so people are not snatching each others' seats.

Have dinner delivered to the table by waiters/waitresses.

Have the couple do a dance together.

Have the hubby make a speech to his new wife.

Yeah, stuff like that. You know. Have a NORMAL wedding.

Re: Untraditional wedding

Best advice oif the thread…

Re: Untraditional wedding

we have done both for our cousins and works great :k:

Re: Untraditional wedding

the live music idea is awesome... went to a wedding where they had performers sing songs...so on mehndi instead of both sides of the family beating the crap outta the dholak they had live music...so much fun and sounds alot better also.

Re: Untraditional wedding

How about not inviting 10,000 people and not having a buffet style dinner? Maybe an afternoon wedding with only a few close relatives/friends and serving tea and pastries?
