Unnecessary Baby products

Were there any products listed on a registry, suggested by friends and family as “must haves,” you bought them, but were not used after the baby was born??? There are several articles on this topic on-line. Many of the lists include:

the diaper genie
wipe warmer
diaper bag (suggesting to go for a larger handbag instead of being defined by a baby bag)

Some cases were so extreme that they were saying no to strollers, cribs, and nursery decor:S:S:S

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I dunno, man, every new mom I know has sworn the diaper genie is awesome.

As for diaper bag, I've heard mixed reviews too. In the end I opted for it because of all the pockets/organization and the waterproof bits which handbags might not offer. plus the handbags I wanted were way pricier :p

Wipes and bottle warmers I've heard are pretty useless.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I love my diaper genie.....we have waste pickup once a week so its really convenient.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

diaper genie has mixed reviews.. for some it works, for some it doesn't!!

I personally will not buy one and will just try to keep up with the trash instead of having dirty diapers in the house.. We have a big trash can outside the house so it can stay in there until it gets picked up!!

wipe warmer.. my friend had it.. apparently she is giving it to me but I may not use it.. I have issues with the wipes.. they have chemicals on them anyway.. I mayjust wash the wipe under hot water and us that!! Most probably I will be washing the baby at every diaper change!!

Diaper bag.. I cant wait to buy one.. thats just one of the perks of pregnancy and baby.. another bag that you can splurge on without feeling bad :D I am looking at Skip hop bags but havent decided one yet!!

Personally I dun like strollers but I know I will get one!!

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Diaper genie is a waste if you take your trash out everyday. I do that so definitely a waste for me. I got a bottle warmer as a gift, I returned it. I keep boiled/filtered water in a jug outside which is room temp. All I do is mix the formula so I didn't need to warm the bottles. My baby was born in March which is still slightly cold in NY so he hated cold wipes but now he is fine and weather has gotten warmer. I am glad I didn't spend money on a wipe warmer, I almost bought it.

Diaper bag is a must. I carry everything for him . I have my own changing pad in it and all. I don't like p utting my baby on bare changing table outside. I always keep extra clothes, wipes and diapers for him. Mine isn't a huge diaper bag though.

Bibs were a total waste. I bought so many. What was I thinking.
I bought a nice head and full body support thing for stroller, car seat and stuff but they all already came with a support. So that's just sitting there.
Breast pump was a waste. I got it for free though.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Spiral.. really pump was a waste??? were you working or staying home with the baby??

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

No i just didn't have enough milk to pump. lol.. Also, washing after each pump was such a headache. I had medela, it comes with so many parts. I packed it and put it away. If he doesn't drink directly, I don't pump!

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

oh ok.. thats why I am waiting until after the baby is here and before I return to work after 12 weeks.. makes sense :-)

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

heard that a boppy pillow isnt worth buying...is it or not???

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I didn't use or miss a diaper genie.

The bottle warmer is not necessary, but definitely useful if you need bottles in the middle of the night/early morning in those early few months. We kept it in our bedroom and used ours every night.

I find diaper bags really useful. A handbag is not going to hold food, extra clothes, blankets, toys, etc.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Diaper genie is great if you live in an apartment. For people living in houses, its not worth it.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I bought one but didn't use it that much...:-/
I could have done everything what it is used for, without it.Never got a wipes warmer or diaper genie.Did not miss it.
I got a diaper bag ...not a very expensive or fancy one but something with enough pockets and all...I still use it and it is always full..I cant think I could have used a handbag instead.I carry way lot more stuff than needed...:(

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^ I didn't use it for nursing until I figured out how to nurse and she got a little bigger. Then I used it all the way until the day I stopped nursing. And it was also really handy to support her as she was lying and playing and such.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I love my boppy pillow and so does my baby. I use it for nursing. My baby loves to sit in it all day. I keep it in my living room. Actually my current fb pic is my baby sitting in his boppy. I even got different slipcovers..

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I got the dash! Skip Hop - Baby Items, Products & Gear | Carter's

Are u looking into carriers vs strollers?

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Dont kill me ladies but I think that Crib is also a wasted product. A bassinet or even a play pen can do the same job and they are more portable in nature.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

TLK your older one slept in a crib until she was 1 and then choti slept in it until she was 6 months old. So I like cribs :snooty:.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Bassinetts can't hold babies past 15 lbs or so, and once babies are sitting up and moving about they are dangerous. Sure a play pen could work, but they're not as pretty. Also, our crib converts into a toddler bed, which is handy.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Price wise, play pen is a better and long term option .. I think …

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^true. Are they comfortable?
