Unnecessary Baby products

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Play pens are like jails. I prefer cribs and all babies should get one. Get ready to sell off or donate after a year though. Of course if you have a magical child and you are a magical parent, the crib converting intro a toddler bed may work for ya :naak:.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^wait a minute.. what happens that you cant covert crib into toddler bed???

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

TLK, price-wise, there are many economical choices in cribs now. walmart, target, and ikea all make sturdy, well reviewed, safe cribs that don't break the bank. we picked up the ikea gulliver crib for $139, so i think they're definitely competitive with play pens. plus cribs tend to be less bulky than most play pens that i've seen which have a much larger footprint.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Is that cuz they refuse to sleep in their cribs once they are aware of the separation? That’s what happened with us. So we gave in, converted to a toddler bed, and stuck the toddler bed up against our bed. Not the best solution, but better than her sleeping between us.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

lol guess what I was kind of torn between Versa and Dash… I like both of them!!! Dash in cherry bloom and versa in cream links.. I want both!!!

I got a free Seven Slings carrier in one of the offers when I had joined the babycenter so I will see if that works or not!! In terms of strollers, I just dun like any.. husband wants to go for travel system but I find them too bulky for my taste.. so far nothing has clicked that will make me want to just go and get it!!!

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

also pink linning blooming are soooo gorgeous!! can’t decide which ones I like more! if I get cash for the baby i am investing in this. (I mean cash from my relatives haha)

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

I wanted the versa in black but my brother was horrified lol he said it was too grown up for a baby bag, so he talked me into the ocean stripe dash. It matches our stroller without being too matchy matchy so I got it.
Haven't heard of seven slings... Gna go check it out now.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

She wasn't in her crib in her room, sahar? Or she was but she didn't like the toddler bed vs crib?

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^ She was until about a year. Then she got sick, we let her sleep with us, then she refused to leave. It was harder and harder to get her to sleep in her crib, until it became impossible. It was either never sleep or find a compromise. This was our compromise.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^ Sounds fair! It's funny how parents have such grand plans and then babies come along with their own little personalities and ruin things haha :p

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^ Indeed.

i also think there's a real emphasis these days on training them to be a certain way from the beginning or it will be very difficult in the future, and to some degree I think that's true, but sometimes it's a choice between a battle now and a battle later. And later is sometimes the better choice. :D

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

^BTW the reason we didn't just put the crib against our bed is that it was too obvious a separation and she would still resist.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

BTW: These items are common gifts in the first year, so you don't need to load up on them --
*clothes
*stuffed animals
*teething toys
*rattles

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

Here are some answers from a dad who is very involved with his daughter's upbringing:

First of all, no two moms/dads are alike. What one might consider useless, another might consider priceless, so don't go by articles or what people insist on. Here is my recommendation, when you go to the store to make your baby registry, try to go 2-3 times, each time with a different person who has had a baby recently, within the last 6-8 months. This way you'll get 2-3 different, realistic perspectives.

Second thing to remember, it's not the end of the world if you don't buy absolutely everything you need before the baby comes, remember, life goes on and stores stay open after your baby comes so you can always buy things you need more of and return things you didn't need. A lot of baby purchases are trial and error, you buy one swing, your baby might not like it, return it and try another.

For me, the diaper bag was an issue, being a dad and a primary care giver (my wife was in residency and working 80 hours a week so I was the primary provider), I did not need/want a cutesy cartooney diaper bag. I opted for a nice hiking backpack, there are plenty of compartments for all your necessities, diapers, wipes, extra clothing, bottle, bibs, etc and you don't look like a git.

The pump was critical for my wife. She was absolutely hell bent on breast milk for the first year. She fed our daughter every day multiple times, it was only when she was on call that I gave her a bottle of mama's milk. I have tremendous respect for my wife who breast fed and pumped CONSTANTLY even working 80 + hours a week. She pumped in meetings, she pumped in the car while driving to work, she pumped when doing charts. For ladies who want to pump in a public place, please consider a product called the 'hooter hider'.

I used a bottle on our daughter when mama wasn't around, I tried bottle warmers, they just didn't work for us. A lot of people swear by them.

So, just keep an open mind and when your baby comes, you will find out yourself what YOU and YOUR baby need versus everybody else in the universe.

Congratulations, by the way.

Re: Unnecessary Baby products

My daughter Sara is 15 months old. She used to breast feed and then sleep in her crib. After my second baby Abdullah who is 3 months now i stopped feeding her. She was giving a hard time in sleeping. We got a swing (traditional one from pakistan) and she started sleeping in that. In the beginning we used to rock her for 10-15 mins. Now we must rock her for 30-45 mins. Im really upset with her this habit. Plz suggest some thing to improve her habits.
