I think the main reason for the universities from Pakistani or other countries like Pakistan are not in the list because of tick points to get more points.

  • Mostly their data is not even included in the list!
  • while very good one LUMS, GIK, NUST, etc. take creme and produce good graduates, area of research is way below than good unis worldwide. Hence they don’t get such points. Research based studies with backing of industry is required. Check how many patents filed by Pakistan let alone any universities? Universities should be Centre of excellence and deriving the research in any country, this is not the case in Pakistan or such other countries.
  • After mushy we have many and much needed universities now, but many of them lack facilities and faculty for to be a university?
  • e.g. many PhDs are produced every year by copying the previous work of others and there is very few universities who has systems in place to check before submit ones work, it’s really not hard to implement such system, most western unis has this online submit and checks it against all online and submitted work from the past and any similarities will come up and student has a chance to review the work and rework before final submission to avoid penalties.
  • quality, every good uni has its strict system of revising slybus every 3-4 years or early to keep it up to date for changing world. This definitely is not the case in Pakistan

list can go on and on. We still have successful bright people i guess only because of their own hard work and talent; Most Universities don’t ignite the passion/environment/intellectual curiosity/thought process/invention

I hope you won't mind if I extrapolate to India and Pakistan. The reason is that Pakistani and Indian universities were designed to produce brown babus for the British Empire. They were not designed to produce critical thinkers, like the universities in the West.
This, certainly in the case of India, is changing. But it requires dramatic structural change. I suspect, within the next decade, we'll see Indian universities higher in the list....there are caveats, of course, like management quotas and such...
