Hey ppl, I wanna no your opinions of Different Universities around England as Im starting to apply next month. I wanna know things such as:
-How big is the asian population
-What are staff like
-Is the campus life any good?
So far, the Unis i have in mind are: Aston, UCE of Birmingham, Birmingham University, Bournemouth, The University of Gloucestershire, University of Hertfordshire, Oxford Brookes University, The University of Essex, University of Westminster, University of Surrey.
If you go to any of the university please give me your opinions, for those of u who dont still give me reccomendations. Im looking to study Finance, Business or Economics related subjects.
Aston is the best uni for business on your list...but campus life isnt all that...but its near birmingham so you can just rave with the Birmingham uni lot...
Aston has lots of Asians...Birmingham uni surprisingly doesnt but again you are in Birmingham...
University of Hertfordshire is full of asians...not a good uni but real good for student life...full of guji gals if you are on that...but to be honest just generally full of asians...
University of Westminster is full of Asians on Business related courses...all asians tend to do business or computer science...so its the same at westminster...if you are on harrow campus there are no non asians...baker street is more diverse...and at westminster you get a more diverse set of asians...you got gujis, pakis, bengalis, sikhs and even the odd hindu punjabi who are buff...
essex is a good uni but no asians...bournemouth, gloucestershire and oxford brooks dont tend to have many asians...
other unis full of asians in order of how good they are...Queen Marys (my favourite),Brunel, Kingston, London Met, Middlesex and South Bank...South Bank in particular is supposed to have a huge Pakistani population but is one of the lowest ranked unis...
Bro student life is what you make of it...i hate my uni (LSE) but enjoy student life...you will end up knowing people from other London unis through raves and friends etc...i spend most of my time at Queen Marys cos my friends are there...remember you are at uni to study...choose your course based on what you want to achieve from your course...not the life that your uni gives you...bro i go to lectures...attend classes then go to other unis for your fun...i have no asians at my uni but loads of asian friends...so choose your uni based on your course...cos you can enjoy the best of both worlds by doing this...
I'm at Bradford. Got some very good lecturers and some very bad ones aswell. All depnds on what you want to do. Most of the best staff teach Final and Postgrad students at my school. Bradford has got good employment potentials only second after cambridge. Dont know too much about the Biz or finance school but seem inline with rest of uni. Bradford is a cheap place to live. Campus life is what you want to make it. Plenty of asian places to go or dine. Large Asian population.
^ I was going through their list of courses. Nothing in Hospitality industry. Which is a good university offerring courses in hospitality industry and what is the placement probability? Is the industry hot in UK?
If you have the finances to live in London then I would definately recommend a London Uni. You mentioned Westminster, I’ve only heard good things about that uni. It also has some of the hottest desi girls. The downside is TOO many desis and idiots.
Kings College London is world renowned. I went there and it was an unbelievable experience. The friends I made there are friends for life :k: The teaching is top class and whenever you mention you’re a Kings graduate you get a hell a lot of respect. It has a very large Islamic society, is full of desis and most importantly, has some of the best looking desi women But it doesn’t really specialise in the field you’re to study in so you may wish to try UCL which is very similar to Kings with just as good student life and even better teaching in some areas.
The best choice would be LSE. Its damn hard to get into but definately worth a shot as its reputation is among the very best. You’ll be guaranteed some of the best teaching any place can offer, lots of desis, respect upon graduating and a good job. Other places in London you should look at are City uni, Queen Mary & Westfield.
I’d stay away from Birmingham Uni, I know a few people that went there and didn’t enjoy it. Its apparently full of snobbish jerks and doesn’t have many desis to chill out with.
Hey Starsky, I live in London so i dont really have any problems with finance for accomodation here as im living with my parents. I know i cant get into LSE but i am trying for UCL.
PakiChan, I am graduate of Westminster, overall good though the passing criteria is more strict than others listed by u.
it has quiate large population of asians, well every uni in uk has same if they have got business and computer sc departments ;) i know many friends who were strugling in Westmin got good grades from Brunel and middlesex on first attempt.
if you live in london and thinking to join uni in london then
my order of preference would be
All Uni of London colleges
Westminster Uni
City
Brunel
Kingston
Middlesex
Hertfordshire
Hey, Whizz I was looking into London Met but after doing quite alot of research, i found out its not that great. Their rating are so bad, they didnt allow their figures to be published in the Times Univesity Guide. Although it has a wide rage of courses, the teaching quality and research is not very good.
thanks a lot pakichan i have been to their pakistan regional office plus their campus at Holloway road north london. i was impreesed at first but yeah institutions can never be judged by their buildings..
bradford uni is a good choice as itsa uni constantly improving its ranking. Business school of bradford is one of the best. According to times bradford school of management is ranked 8th in uk and 76 in world and according to guardian its ranked 6th in uk. Its a cheap place to live with a lot of pakis and asians so the best choice according to me. If you are planning for london then ofcourse oxford, lse and all colleges of uni of london are the best option but london is very expensive and so are the good unis there. Some1 also asked for leeds met..well its one of the lowest in ranking. According to guardian its 110/110 and its the uni which is constantly going down. for more on rankings u can check by yourself on timesonline and guardian website.
You should check some independednt ratings of the Uni's you wanna go to.. If I were you I wouldn't touch West Minster and the like with a barge poll ....almost all the uni fees are decided by the Govt and with the exception of a few all charge the same amount of money here so One should always go for the best(or the red brick universities as they are called) Since I am based In London I would suggest that you check King's college, warwick, birkbeck and city University (for MBA only) or the like, but if u dun want to live in London then check the Uni of leeds ... I dunno what your subjects are otherwise I cud have given better info ..wish ya luck with the serach

P.s who says that London Metropolitan is good??????? I am surprised at that, its just a crap university and doesn't have good rankings. Don't even think of it, (the only benefit it has is that they would find you a job in KFC when u arrive.
