Unfortunate Wedding Situations

I heard a true story last night that just has me SHOCKED.. to say the least. This aunty we know, just went to Pakistan 5 months ago to attend her younger sister’s wedding. When the guy’s side had come with the proposal, they had said that they own a business and seemed very wealthy. The girl’s side went to their house in defence, saw that they owned mercedes and bmw, had a large number of servants, etc etc.. you know how the materialistic stuff works in the rishta process. The guy’s family seemed VERY nice and everyone got along great. So the wedding took place, the reception was at some lavish hotel, everything went by smoothly. The couple went on their honeymoon to Europe and Middle east for 3 weeks. The day after they returned, the bride woke up in the morning to see the guy’s family (consisting of his parents, 4 brothers, 2 sisters, 4 cousins) all running around getting ready in these weird ‘costumes’… turned out, they were all beggars!!! The bride fainted. When they woke her up, they explained to her that THIS was their family business since YEARS.. they even had beggar networks where they ‘supervised’ a number of other adults and kids and received their ‘profit’.

The bride is now back with the family and apparently now filing for divorce. The aunty was in tears on the phone and my mom was just too shocked to say anything. I can’t believe such things even happen in today’s world!!

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

interesting.. i always thought this story would happen in an indian movie.. but it really is sad to hear it happen in real life..

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

OMG, I cant beleive it, but how come they were able to afford Europe tour and all those expensive cars

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Oh my God. may Allah help this poor girl.....

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Its all true eventhough it might sound unrealistic and bollywood type of a story.
These supposedly so called beggars u see on streets in pakistan are most of the time fake ! They make a lot of profit through begging and acting.

Coming to real poor ppl they are ussually not found begging at whatever cost it may be, as it would crush their ego and self respect which i can totally understand .....

But a owing a house in defence is just over the top,....how sad it may be for this aunty and her younger sister which i really feel sorry for...its sad that ppl look only from the outside and fall for the materialistic stuff..without taking a tohoughly check up of the guy and his khaandan. Rich poor or middle class doesnt matter...u dont sell or marry off your daughters only because the guys family are rich or not

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

i dont know what i would do i hope no girl will ever come in such a situation may god forbid...but shouldnt she just stay with the guy what can she possibly do ?is talaq the best option ? i wonder cant she persuade her husband to quit begging?

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Begging is apparently a VERY profitable thing in Pakistan now.. you would be shocked at how much money these people make.. I remember a 50/50 spoof on a family who were shown as sooo loaded and were actually beggars.

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Now, the girl's family is saying that they can never accept a 'beggar' as a family member and citing all this Islamic stuff how begging is haraam in islam, etc etc. They feel that it is a major beizzati for them.. etc etc. Moreover, they feel like they have been deceived.. which I do not agree with because I think they married the girl off purely based on what they saw.. big house, expensive cars, 'business' talks, and all that.. if they had bothered investigating even a bit about the guy's family, they would have found out the truth.

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

But were they like educated kinda beggars ? I mean you can just tell by looking at their lifestyle, how they talk or treat things :konfused:

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Oh yeah, they spoke english and everything.. the husband (groom) even spoke french when they traveled to europe!

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Jeeezzzz I m speechless !

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Oh my!!!

I dont even know how to react

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

I dunno, for the family to be so fluent in english, husband able to speak french...seems a bit fishy to me. Are they educated people, who just turned to this begging business because its more profitable than doing a regular job?

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

^ probably!

i think shay is right- they should have done more research on the family and their business instead of just marrying her based on their wealth. and when you think about it, thats a pretty big thing- don't you ask someone what they do for a living? unless they blatantly lied about it... weird.

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

I don't know if I completely but the story...esp about how the family speaks English and hubby spoke French.
Also, if these people are waking up each day...all 20 of them ....dressing up in this costume....don't the neighbors see so many people leaving their home as beggars??
Did they just marry their daughter off blinded by the Mercedes/big house? How stupid!!! I mean come-on...even basic investigation would have provided some insight....I mean someone in the neighborhood must have known what's going on.....seems like hocu pocus to me. Maybe the girl loved someone else and came up with this tale to get out of it?

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

It seems like it had been their business since YEARS.. the grandparents were a part of it, the parents were and even though the children were apparently educated, they were included in it as well. I am sure it has to do alot with the fact that they are raking in way too much money. I mean for them to own rich homes, flashy cars and all.. the business has to be flourishing and therefore has it's own charm. Money is everything to some people.. regardless of how shameless or bad the profession. For example, drug smugglers know they are criminals but they still do it because it makes them filthy rich.. same with beggars.. their mentality is probably that so what if it's 'shameless', atleast it's helping us make money.

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Errr and marrying the girl off just by seeing how the family was loaded is Islamic? :konfused: I don’t blame them for filing for divorce…but i don’t understand/agree iwht their reasoning for that. I’d say they lied big time…but then again they ddint’ really lie, they DID say they have a business… :hehe: poor girl…

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

thats real nasty.. should there be some law against phony con men like that.. shoudnt they behind bars or pay some fine for what they did.. or do on a regular basis..

i would wanna hide cameras in their house and do a reality show.. wouldnt that be so awsome to see..

Re: Unfortunate Wedding Situations

Great Idea
This reminds me of bengalis who used to live in my area and they claimed all those benifts showing the whole family is disabled :smack:
They got ££££ every month and whenever they used to go out they always used whleechairs and all, council really doubted their credibilty to get all those allowances but couldnt really do anything againt them without any proof, unfortunately one day bengalis called up the plumber and council sent their own men their, whn they got inside the house they were shocked to see everyone was fit and fine, chilling, dancing, had every equipment of Gym, plasma tvs
they played with council for around 7-8 years :cb:
