Well I will start with one!
My father was enganged to a girl before he got married to my mother. She (they) were quite modern for that time. Well my father’s family used to live in a farm, where they had no toilets at that time and people used to go outside to the land to relieve themselves. My father was working in the city and living there alone and quite a stunning gentleman at that time. (have seen his pics)
I think they did the rishta, coz of his looks and job.
Well anyway, the girl and her family used to come to the farm to visit my father’s family on occasions.
His sister (my phuppos) were asked to carry a lota for her as she went to the land. (imagine them going behind her with a lota in the hand for her!!) LOL!
That and the talks bothered my phuppos so much, that they canceled the engangement.
thats not really funny ..... and you thinkin its funny is kinda sad cuz hellloooo have you ever thought that maybe you cudve bin in that position......how wud you like it if your rishta got broken jus cuz of the way you lived???
Its true someitme they just go for the looks and not the person, here is another story
"this one girl was offered a rishta, and it went on back and forth, when the boy saw the girl and he said yes, so they were engaged, but during the one weeks time, this girl went for a hair cut, so kinda have her hair cut short (not too short) and when they (both the girl/boy) you should see his face kinda stunned with ????????? then the following week the engagement broke just because she cut her hair short. later she found out that because of her hair cut short her did not like her looks, as sher looks better with long hair than short hair." its a true story I've heard from someone.
So I would say one should not go for the looks, but should get to know the person better.
A khala of one of friends was very interested in me getting married to one of her nieces, so she took me and my friend to their home to see the girl. We were sitting in their drawing room and so this woman enters the drawing room and I said salam alaikum auntie then we started chit chatting and since I had to go somewhere and the girl we were supposed to see was not coming in so I asked auntie aap key baiti kahan hay ?The Khala of my my friend give me a gentle slap and said " ziada mazaq na karo , yeh woh larki hay jo tumhain dekhanay lai hoon."
And I felt so embarrassed as that poor girl looked way older than I was told.:o
when we got back to my car to go back home I could not drive the car because I and my friend were laughing like mad and this time the khala of this friend was getting embarrased.

Funny
weird..i dont get it?..wat was the exact reason for the breaking of hte ristha?..what talks?..
My dads family sent the rishta, mum's family wasn't sure because pops hadn't lived in Pakistan for more than 5 years because grandad did the diplomat thing. Turns out both family goes back to the same town way back and relatives knew each other. So the deal was sealed.
Mum wanted to get a PhD and was ticked off for getting married. But she got over it after a while and "after I was born" (or so she says). Nothing remarkable, just the solid stuff.
My dad did have a german ex gf. Crazy because he was pretty upfront about it with mum and with me when we had the whole dating talk.
To this day, my folks are more liberal than I could ever be!
Oh wait there is part II and how he got to marry my mom. Of course the story is not funny, I have seen the pic of the first girl and she was quite stunning, like a princess. I would not have done such a thing.
Once again, my father was travelling the train, there he was talking to some old gentlemen who got impressed by my father and wanted him to marry his daughter, somehow I think my father went to their place and they turned to be some distance relatives.
Father’s family rejected the idea, as for them the family was too modern and not their standard. I think his 3 out of 4 sisters controlled his life through parents.
Then through some middle woman they met my mothers family and sent the rishta over, my father had not seen my mom prior to marriage. So one day he goes to the college where ammi was teaching to try to locate her, he sees some tall girl in a black burka and is satisfied. But after the marriage he realises it was not my mom as she is not so tall.
Ok this is not the end as my phuppos made my moms life like hell for sometime, my father being the obedient son let things happen, it even came close to my older sister dying due to fever and no care as they were against it and not so happy as I the second daughter was born. Moral of the story, let your ego go.
I was really sick one time and had to be taken to the hospital.. . SO the doctor on call came for checkup and the usual history of symptoms(detailed ones:bummer:) and later sent a rishta…I was just so grossed out from the fact that he was taking all the information and that you know taking th pulse etc..I dont want to mention some of the questions…but it was gross. My khala and ami had such a long fit of laughter when they were discussing all of this..
I have so many. My dad was engaged like three times before he married my mom. And I had the weirdest rishtas also. I think the weirdest had to be this guy friend of mine telling me his parents are building a mansion in Pakistan. Then out of nowhere, he goes "our" room and i was just like "WHAT"..this guy never even mentioned he liked me but was talking about "our" room. Weird. Needless to say that was the last conversation we had.
