with student visa u have x number of years to finish your degree and specific allowable time for practical training, and then if your employer chooses to sponsor you for H1 and then for greencard tahts one thing.
if you are a student and u dont get a job where you are being sponsored, should you stay in the country illegally?
If they want to stay, they need to follow the same process that the rest of people follow...let me rephrase, they should follow the legal process that is laid out and needs to be followed which i assume majority of immigrants on thios board followed.
PS: temporary work visa that they are now discusing in govt is similar to teh saudi program, u ahve a visa working for one employer, u need to have the authorization and a job before you come over etc etc etc,a nd when teh job ends, u go back
