Whether a couple gifts each other knickers and bras depends on their composite personality (I really want to say IQ) and how sexual their relationship is. For some, this level of intimacy is devoid of meaning outside the sanctity of marriage. Giving someone underwear is unlike giving someone jewelery or a necktie. The intention is sexual, the aim is arousal.

I personally don’t know anyone who does. Then again my social circle might be atypical. My idea of romance is gifting a book, preferably with depressing subject matter.

Orrrr the intent was a light-hearted joke? I guess it depends on the dynamic of the relationship.
