Understanding Geeky Stuff.

I have absolutely no idea how much ram is good enuff or wat r the gbs r suppose to do really. So yah help me understand all that geeky stuff.

Dell Core I 3 2.26
4.0 GB Ram
500 GB HDD
DVD Writer
Bluetooth, Camera
15.6" Led Bright View
Windows 7 Home Basic
Vga 1.0 GB ATI

How are the above specs? I am mainly gonna be using the laptop for adobe photoshop to make prints/designs. So i was looking for something that would run that smoothly and somebody recommended the above model of Dell N5010-DLK. I have few questions from you guys;

  1. Is Dell the best choice to go for?

  2. Do i need that much ram n gb to run photoshop or should i settle for say lesser ram and stuff to lower the cost?

  3. Is this model good overall?

  4. Somebody told me dell has battery and heating issues? any truth to that?.

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

its good specs for Photoshop …

one tip keep you laptop battery unpluged when you are using it in home with adapter .. it will save you battery life ( i heard like that )

I recommend Macbook Pro ( but they are really expensive as compare to other brands ) they have good battery life ..

but i my self won’t buy macbook pro because in that much money i can buy Mac Pro

I already have toshiba but im not upgrading because still laptops have 2 cores and usb 3 still isn’t there

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

these specs are nice for adobe usage ..

few things to be noticed ..
1: The windows you are getting, make sure its 64 bit version.
2: normally, dell ships 6 cell battery which will give you power for like 1.5 hour .. if u can upgrade then go for 9 cell battery

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

Ok thank.

But since this above model is gonna cost me around 75k, which is stretching what i was willing to spend, i am thinking if anything in SONY would be good enough for my work on photoshop. I had feel better spending that much on my favorite brand then just any brand. lol.

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

oh, i din notice that you arein pakistan .. emm .. i would prefer don’t go for any brand but DELL .. reason, they have decent support in hafiz center rather than any other brand.

there is a shop in hafz center ground floor .. i guess its name is UNITED COMPUTERS .. .. they are good and have decent deals. I got a laptop from 'em .. almost same specs (except 1G ATI card) in 57K with a year warranty.

I would never prefer to go for any brand except DELL as far as you are in Pakistan

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

No i m gonna get it from kuwait.

thanks. noted these down.

make sure it has international warranty. caz dell does not have any support center in pakistan. if things go wrong you gota send your laptop to dubai for fixing .. .. so before you purchase, tell 'em before hand that this laptop is going to be in pakistan so would that be okay .. 'caz sometimes they give you local warranty (i.e. to reduce price)

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

Ohhhhh yah. Hmmm thanks, wl chk that.

But what abt sony?

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

I have 2 concerns about sony ..

  • The support for sony isn’t that good in pakistan. i.e. if some problems come up, you wil have tough time get it fixing. if you need some new hardware or even charger then some may rip you off for those things

  • Sony is like MAC in PC world. they rip you off for OKAY hardware specs. i.e. you might get a sony laptop for 50K (assumption) but the same laptop would cost you in like 40,45K if you buy it from DELL or ACER.

on the other note.

  • Sony is glossy, nice looking

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

Lol. But i rather pay that much more for the gloss and shine :p.

So can u recommend any sony model?

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

umm .. I really have no idea about sony laptop range. I can look into some .. but it will take some time. or you can give me options i will let you know which one is better ..

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

Well i myself am doing the same i.e looking on net. So you do that as well and i wl post here as soon as i like something and u can guide me if i shud consider it. thanks alot for the help.

now ths is what confuses me. y r these sony models in such reasonable range? isnt sony always more expensive like u also mentioned. so wat’s wrong here?! hmm. as far as i can see..yes its lesser gb but phir bi baki sab luks same :frowning:

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

• Intel Core i3 Processor 330M - 2.13Ghz

• 4GB RAM

• 500GB HDD

• Display 14.1"

• WiFi

• BlueTooth

• Card Reader

• Camera

• LAN

• 256MB Dedicated 3D nVidia Graphics Card

• Blue Ray Dics

• Windows 7 Home Premium

thats way lesser than the one you posted above .. .. .. it will still fulfill your Adobe requirements but add a lots of burden to Processor

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

Acha. But how less? explain pls. lol.

r we suppose to compare Vga 1.0 GB ATI of Dell with 256MB Dedicated 3D nVidia Graphics Card of Sony?

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

256M is okay .. for kind a job you are gona do. but i was saying that you are getting a way better deal with 1G in lesser price .. .. .. thats why ..

but as long as you are concerned with Adobe things, 256M is good to go

Re: Understanding Geeky Stuff.

you are rite abt the price but i think prices in pak r higher than in kuwait though i was told otherwise earlier on but now when i m comparing with this website i think kuwait prices r better. so i m gonna chk maybe these sony models wl be around same.
