Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Oil stocks were down across the board. CVX at abt 84.2. XOM abt 77.05.
Rooting for oil stocks to go down more.

Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Tike for the usual disclaimer. The thread is NOT about trading. It is about spotting undervalued stocks and or undervalued sectirs. Which have been beaten down due to what MAY be not permanent. Pharmaceuticals were in this category say 4 yrs ago. Now I feel they are fully valued.
Oil - upstream has been in this category since Oct 2014. So each time crude hit lows or was near it, I bought some stocks.
TOT and rds.a in Oct 14.
XOM and CVX last week.
When I bought xom I already had a 10 pct loss in it from a purchase circa 1.5 yrs ago.
If crude goes down further hoping for more opportunities.
Once buying done , will hold on. Probably for long time. Till they become significantly overvalued. Or if there are MUCH BETTER opportunities.
Less trading. Think long term.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
uSAMa came to meet me after my graduation! ![]()
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
XOM at 74.5
CVX at 79
COP 47
No complaints. May decrease limit order for COP to 45.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Got too busy. Didn’t get chance to lower cop limit to 45. The limit was at 46. Closed at 45.5. Sondefinitelt picked it up. No complaints. Was patient. Didn’t buy at 49.
XOM I think at 72.
CVX at 75.
Baby steps. Will wait for further drop. In no hurry.
AMAT at 15.4. We spoke abt tbis earlier. May start buying at 14.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
None of this is TRADING. Had raised cash when stocks were higher. Just waiting to pick them on the cheap.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
XOM went to 66 in recent drop. Didn’t buy. Now back to 72. So about 7 pct drop from 77. CVX at about 75. So 11 pct drop. COP 47 I think. So 2 pct gain.
From earlier purchases
XOM 83 I think. So 14 pct loss
Royal dutch 18 pct loss
TOT about 8 pct loss
Yesterday BP reached the same price after Horizon deep water spill. 30.7. Didnt think twice. It was done 5.7 pct for the day. Bought some.
Also transferred some from money market to European fund since europe was down about 2.7 pct. The money mkt funds were from selling US index funds but by bit over last 12 months as part of rebalancing. (Actually as mentioned in other tgreads, did more than rebalancing. Reduced the allocation to US stocks due to what I consider overvaluation. I would NOT recommend the latter, since one can get trapped in overanalyzing valuations. Having fixed asset allocation tuned to ones risk tolerance and periodic rebalancing are the two fee lunches. Don’t get greedy and look for a third free lunch.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
AMAT in recent downturn reached 14.5. Didn’t pull trigger. Now at 15.5. No regrets. Had set a target of 14 to start dipping feet. Didn’t reach. Let it go.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
I did not understand most of the gibberish here written by Southie!
So, I am thinking of joining an MBA program soon! ![]()
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Good luck, good chapter.
Don’t mind the gibberish. Southie is mostly clueless.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
okay!
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Continuing with the gibberish for future MBA grads’ consumption -
RDS.A reached multi year low of 46. That is a 25 pct loss from previous purchases price of 61. Bought some. Heard that they had to give up arctic drilling due to greenpeace.
Next on radar - the usual oil suspects. Maybe TOTAL.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Here are recent picks from energy stocks and their outcome

Aug 6 cvx 83.6 now 88.1 5 pct gain 6 pct yld
Aug 21 cop 46.25 now 55.3 20 pct gain 7 pct yld
September 4 bp 30.7 now 35.7 gain 15.5 yld 6 pct

All ylds from memory at purchase price.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
What tbis shows is when any sector gets beaten down buy bit by bit of top companies from that sector with healthy balance sheet and low valuation.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Also the following sales worked out
Sold some lly July 23 for 89. Now 84
Sold some pfe July 20 35.15 now 33.3
Sold all teva July 27 68.6 now 58.6
All of these are down average of 8.5 pct in about 2.5 months.
Reason for sale - teva overvalued.
LLY and pfe fully valued. So lightened up.
Not rocket science. Have a strategy. Stick to it.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Also this stock I had not discussed in tbis thread. Walmart.
Bought September 22 at 63. Now at 66.4 or 5.3 pct gain. Yield 3.15 pct at purchase.
Reason to buy. Had come down from 91. Strong balance sheet. Good valuation. Why not?
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Walmart was down 8 pct Wednesday the 14th. And another 2 pct when I picked it up at 58.83. Finished at 59.33.
This is the strategy. Buy good companies at good prices. Buy some more a better prices. Hope the price goes down some more. But some. And down some more. Make last buy.
Then sit back and wait
Here is to hoping WMT goes to 50.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
One correction - had sold all of remaining LLY
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Placed limit order on POT at 15.15. Hit it at 15.1 - ended at 16.05..7.5 pct dividend yield. Stock at multi year low. Has some headwinds. But balance sheet OK. Div yld may be cut. Can live with that.
Re: under or fairly valued stocks
Picked up CONOCO. It was down 10 pct. But by the time I was able to place the order it was down 7 pct. So got it at 32.78. The low was I think 31.9. Chalega. I think there was news CON would cut dividend or eliminate it. Since per it’s balance sheet it should survive I looked at this news as an opportunity it to add.
