As a corollary to the insanely popular overvalued thread this thread will fpcus on the unfairly beaten down stocks
Applied material - close to 52 wi low rock solid balance sheet
Siemens - at 52 wi low driven down due to Europe sovereign debt crisis
ABB at 52 week low solid balance sheet - grid infrastructure leader
As the monologue continues stay tuned for more diamonds in the rough.
Thanks queer. I hope you got a good price for abb. I know you wont buy without doing your homework - and are quite familiarcwith risks vs rewards.
Just wanted to caution folks to do their own homework.
Since this list ails being used as potential picks in the spirit of full disclosure I picked up abby at 16.05 si at 84.66 amatory at 10.46 (have some at slightly lower prices from before) havexa 11 pct loss in previous teva holdings and picked up novartis recently at 52 wi low.
My stock portfolio is biased towards dividend paying pharmacy. Recently lightened up on sal mart after huge run up. Have some citigroup and bank of America (90% loss in each!) So made my sharecof mistakes.
Reason to buy Siemens and abby was to get into industrialist at good price.
Core portfolio is index funds. Since sno500 overweights large caps to countercthis my individual stock portfolio weighted towards value stocks.
If over valued stock can lead to bursting bubbles, the classic sharp rise and sharp drop profile ... would it be fair to conclude that undervalued stock has a tendency to bounce back - just like a sponge ball being squeezed in, then let go ...???
^ that is possible. I try not to predict short term moves though. In the long run undervalued stocks and overvalued stocks should attain their respective fair values.

I really learnt a lot from uncle’s thread. To be patient and to be consistent in keeping dead threads alive. Sometimes, a thread which didn’t get attention for a week, suddenly start getting good response and active participation. uncle
To be patient and to be consistent in keeping dead threads alive.
In forums such as Life reviving dead threads can be counter-productive. In forums such as histriry reviving can be a good thing - or even world affairs or science. As one learns something new one can reopen a dead thread to correct oneself or present evidence to counter other viewpoints.
Investment forums benefit from revival of dormant threads ( I prefer dormant to dead:)). We can test various strategies over time. Too many times I have come across flippant statements such ss " I have connections that tell me gold is good. And these are made at frothy levels. And the person making these "brave" predictions just disappears when things go the other way.
It is good to challenge ones own hypothesis - test ones strategies - provide basis for such hypothesis and strategies - and see how they work over time.
This is one place where healthy arguments can be very stimulating.
