under eye makeup

i’ve watched loads of youtube tutorials and most do the same thing

put foundation on all the other parts of the face except under the eyes and then put concealer(i’m using bobbi brown corrector) under the eyes then set in place with translucent face powder.

but with my skin it tends to not go so well under the eyes since the texture of the skin under the eyes is a lot more delicate and thin, it ends up looking really thick and heavy under the eyes, everywhere else on the face it’s perfect and light which is perfect with the coty translucent face powder(thanks m_was_here)which i just bought today…woohoo

what am i doing wrong with the under eye makeup? how do you all do it so it blends in?

Re: under eye makeup

Nisha, do you put eye cream or moisturizer under your eyes? If not, at least put foundation under there so the concealer doesn’t cling to the delicate skin of your under eye area. Also, what brush do you use? I use the Bobbi Brown corrector and I find that the best way to apply it is to dab-and-roll it on using your ring finger. I always put on the Bobbi Brown eye cream underneath and let it settle in before applying my concealer. You should apply very little and layer it on in thin layers, at least the Bobbi Brown Corrector.

And when you set it, how do you apply the powder? For any concealing work, you should ALWAYS use a velour puff (they are quite inexpensive, less than $10-$12 at most and they are reusable since you can wash them). The way to apply powder into a velour is to dab the puff into the lid and grab as much powder as you can from the lid (considering it’s the lid, it wont have much powder on it to begin with) and squeeze the puff and rub it together until the powder really works into the puff. And then gently roll it on to the area. You should be left with skin-like results since not only did you NOT use a ton of powder, you pressed it in so it looks natural and not caked on one bit.

Here is a video of the velour puff + loose powder technique. Watch after 6:33:

Re: under eye makeup

stay humble now…but you’re an incredible teacher when it comes to makeup freshies like me, the step that’s in bold in what you said is what i was not doing, i tried to do exactly what you said along with the rest of what you said and it’s perfect now, a million thanks, i wear makeup now, it feels good and far from heavy and icky!! honestly you should make youtube tutorials for desi gals, you would help so many

Re: under eye makeup

^Aw, thanks so much! I'm glad it worked out for you! And I'm not sure about Youtube (I'm...shy >.<) but a blog sounds like an idea I may take up once I get some free time. :)

Re: under eye makeup

MWH you should stop giving advice and just, like, charge people :D

Re: under eye makeup

ur concealer is too thick, u need to use a lighter concealer

Re: under eye makeup

My under eye area is very delicate and Bobbi Brown's corrector doesn't work for me, it's too think so maybe you have the same problem as me, in that case it's like CE said, you have to change your concealer. and don't use powder.

Re: under eye makeup

^which one do y'all use now, BB correcter is the first ever concealing product i've used, i'm still in the experimenting phase with which products work for my skin texture and skin tone and which don't.

i'll definitely go out and test the ones y'all use and hopefully one of them is the perfect fit for me.

woah so then how do you set the concealing product so it doesn't show at all.
we all want total concealment of all the imperfections and unevenness but we want it to look natural and not makeuppy

Re: under eye makeup

LOL! :flowers:

And BB corrector is my favorite. It’s not thick at all. In fact, my under eye is very delicate but I even made do w/ MAC’s Studio Finish Concealer (which is much thicker and works better for blemishes), the trick is thin layering and always having moisturizer underneath. If you want something very liquid-y, did you try the Garnier Anti-Darkness roller. I use that over my BB Corrector or even by itself. But you have to powder regardless or it will settle into fine lines or crease. That goes with foundation or blemish concealing as well.

Re: under eye makeup

i was wondering why my concealer is almost on empty especially when I bought it just 2 months back :hehe: , i was piling it on too thick when it’s texture was already so thick, the thin layering technique looks much better but does it stay in place without powdering, i’m wondering if cinnamonroll is using some other product to set the concealer

oh and plus the laura mercier guy in the video doesn’t seem to put any primer in the under eye area but he does in the rest of the face so is primer necessary in the undereye area..?

Re: under eye makeup

^Primer isn't necessary because that area doesn't produce oil to begin with so you essentially dont need it. I sometimes use an eyeshadow primer (Urban Decay) and it helps w/ the creasing but I find that if I powder correctly and use thin layers, it doesn't make a difference whether I use primer or not. Moisturizer/foundation is enough, IMO.

Re: under eye makeup

I meant thick not think sorry , yeah i guess you're using too much of it, it's already a very thick consistency, so if your under eye is already sensitive, dry or dehydrated, it just won't work, if it works for some people then good for them, it doesn't have to be unanimous. i've tried sooo many concealers so i can tell you that the BB corrector is not the best out there. If you still want to use what you already have then apply a very thin layer but NOT right under your eye, apply it slightly below just to conceal the shadows and use something else for the whole area.

You wanted to know what i'm using, at the moment it's Maybelline's age rewind eraser concealer (the beige one not the pink one), i've heard some people say it's more a highlighter or corrector than a concealer but i think it covers sooo well, and i have very dark circles these days. Bear in mind that they only have two shades so it might not work for you depending on your skin colour. I also like the Bobbi Brown CONCEALER but only use a little product and always dab. For parties or when i want to look extra polishes, i use Laura Mercier's Secret Concealer, it's very thick but very pigmented and very moisturizing so i apply very little product.
Mac's Select moisturecover concealer is excellent, i've recommended it to many people (women and men!) and they loved it.

As for setting the concealer, i've never set my concealer, my belief is that if your concealer doesn't last on its own then you need to change it, just like foundation ! a good concealer should suffice on its own, and i've always had fine lines under my eyes since childhood but never had a problem with creasing with the concealers i mentioned, you just have to apply carefully and use a decent amount and always dab and work your concealer in the skin. I've used make up for like 10 years and never used a setting powder, even for my foundation but then everyone is different.

What eye cream do you use by the way ?

M, i've tried the Garnier roller but it contains a tone of alcohol in it, not so great for the skin :)

Re: under eye makeup

Uh, I think you need to finish all makeup with a powder. If the powder isn't working for you, it's not the right one.

I use a heavier moisturiser, then MAC select cover up because it's very liquid but dries completely. Just dab it on gently with my finger. Then dior skinflash on top. I don't use foundation here but once I'm done with it on the rest of my face, I dust with Mac select sheer pressed.

I know I have been raving about the BB corrector here, but just recently I got the Laura Merciers flawless mineral kit, and I am honestly in love with the secret concealer. Its super moisturizing and pigmented, I don't think you would even need a cream underneath. I just can't reccomend this enough, finally found my HG!!!! A little trick I do to brighten my under eye area is after applying my secret concealer, I dab a tiny bit of BB corrector on top, and it really brightens up the entire area.

Re: under eye makeup

Ditto. I have combo-skin (prone to dryness) yet even I still powder. You need to have a good technique and powder combo. It can't look flawless w/out powder. It doesn't mean you cake it on, but it's a "seal" and it's very important.

Re: under eye makeup

^Uh ok..,just saying, not everyone NEEDS powder to look "flawless"

Re: under eye makeup

Foundation will always look more finished and polished with a dusting of the right powder.

Re: under eye makeup

^ well good for you. i use Laura Mercier's Mineral Foundation Powder and i've never felt the need for setting it with some more powder even with other foundations, i guess if you have good skin to begin with, you don't need to make much efforts, i even own a few samples and have tried the Mac MSF but i like the way it is, so if you need extra products to look better what can i say ?

Re: under eye makeup

Yes it is good for me :)

Re: under eye makeup

Dude, calm down. Stoppits didn't say anything about what type of skin you have.

I do think powder on top of any form of liquid foundation does enhance a finished look. Having tried it both ways, I think the powder finished way looks and feels better.

P.S as someone who has seen Stoppits on a number of occasions, I can tell you she has very good skin. In fact, when I first met her I didnt even realise she was wearing make up!
