Re: Umera Ahmed’s “Qaid e Tanhai”
While I am enjoying this drama, I feel there are too many similarities between this and MZZB. Some similarities:
An inexcusable incident that permanently and drastically changes the lead characters’ personalities. Both Sawera Nadeem and Samia Mumtaz were cheerful and confident before the “incident” and became lifeless zombies (despite the amount of time that passed since the incident). Faisal was very chatty in both dramas and after the incident became serious, no nonsense, and grew facial hair.
The evil saas phenomenon which was performed remarkably by samina peerzad in MZZB and saba hameed in Qai e tanhai.
The spineless, STUPID and hot headed male leads. In MZZB, samina was pretty vocal about her dislike for samia and despite that faisal was stupid enough to believe his mom, spineless enough to not take a stand for samia and hot headed enough to divorce her and re marry. From Qaid e Tanhai’s promos it appears we are headed in the same direction. and how STUPID and insensitive can you be tto desert your own child and then expect her to greet you with open arms.
Evil “Nunds” (sister in laws) who instigate the evil saas
Sadistic female leads who appear to thrive on their misery. Samia became a HOUSE MAID despite being educated. She could’ve easily gotten a school/college instructor job or sold her paintings or taught tutors but NO she had to sweep people’s floors and feel sorry for herself and her situation. Similarly Sawera also chose to stay at her hubby’s place and be treated like a slave.
I am sure Qaid e tanhai’s story is deep and like all of Umera’s work is regarding common unjust practices in our society, but they need to cut down on the melodrama. some of sawera’s scene’s are bordering comedy. She’s over doing the blank stares and the expressionless and also the crazy dialogues. like when she tells her daughter that “mein khush hoon” while tilting her head and giving her the crazy eyes.
Another similarity both dramas opened with death. in both Faisal married a modern girl living abroad that he later resented. and again savera suffers from character blames like samia. but where imran n sara bored in MZZB, farhan n noor r a gr8 combo.
