so i had a growth scan today (at 36 weeks) and once again i was told that my umbilical cord artery pressure was too high , off the chart.
during my last scan (at 34 weeks) the umbilical cord artery was raised but was less high than today.
today, after the growth scan, the sonographer referred me to the labour ward to see a doctor. i waited more than hour to see one, only to have the doc come and see me in the waiting room to tell me that they have to repeat the scan on monday.
i am quiet worried now. what is the issue really? this is the second time they have raised concerned over this issue but i just get scan done.
what does it mean for the umbilical cord artery to be raised. What impact does the high blood flow has on the baby?
the baby’s weight is fine and everything else seems fine.
if anyone had the same experience or if any doc/gyneco in the forum, please help me relax wiht your advice.
Try not to worry. At your next ultrasound appt be sure to ask detailed questions from your doctor so that you can better understand what’s going on. You’re past 36 weeks, even if you and to deliver now you and baby would be okay!
but i am more anxious than friday as no one from the hospital called me back for that apparently 'urgent' scan appointment. I will go on monday and show the reception my notes that states i have to do a scan on monday again.
this is the second time i have been told an urgent appointment needs to be arranged and yet no one calls me back and when i go to the reception they says no slots are available and they will give me a call back.
I am back from the hospital and just found out i need to be induced at 37 weeks which is this friday!
The reason for induction is that the blood flow in the umbilical cord is too high and the placenta cannot cope anymore. The baby growth has reduced although baby is at a good weight.
I am so scared. I really dont wanna end up having a c section but the consultant said for first time mum there is a 20% chance of having one
Has anyone had an induction at 37weeks and delivered naturally?
It all boils down to your body and how labour progresses.... keep an open mind towards c sec as being a real possibility.. when push comes to shove and lives depend on it, having a c sec isnt the end of the world.
Even an Induction at 42 weeks doesnt guarantee a c sec free delivery.
Just go in with an open mind and positive vibes. iA .. all will be well...
Praying for your smooth delivery and healthy baby. iA :)
Best wishes Op! Please don't worry about the how but just know your baby will be fine! Your full term and I think it's very normal, it's all dependent on your body like Khawa said, you will recover just fine.
I am so surprised though that is very little information on ambilical cord artery pressure!
I was induced at 37 weeks with my firstborn, and it was a completely natural vaginal delivery. I was only in labor for 3-4 hours from start to finish, and got through it with no epidural, no episiotomy, not a single tear. My son was 7lbs 8 oz at birth.
Please don’t be scared. Even if you do have to a have a csection it’s not the end of the world or something to fear. The only thing that is important is a healthy baby and mom!

Not me, but my friends have! They were induced were various reasons but did not need c-sections. IA praying for a healthy baby naturally ( no c-section). Lots of women are not induced but still end up with c-sections. There are women who had two babies naturally but then had a c-section the third time. So, its not the most awful thing in the world.
I hope everything goes well with you. My two cousins were induced one after her due date and one 2 weeks before ( baby stopped growing) both deliveries were vaginal and babies were healthy. Recoveries were fast too. Inshallah yours will be the same.

It really took me by surprise too!
When i went in i was anxious to find out but never expected to be told that i was going to have a baby by the end of the week. Of course Allah knows best as to when exactly the baby will arrive.
Fyi- The doctor told me that they would not worry if the blood flow in the umbilical artery was too low but they will worry if its too high.
A high blood flow means its an extra effort for the placenta to work and it might not be up the mark of the high speed of the blood flow. In essence , the placenta will then miss out on oxygen and nutrients transported via the umbilical cord. Thus a reducing growth.
Inshallah everything goes well! Try not to worry too much 37 weeks js a good gestation. Keep an open mind about the c sec as it really isnt the end of the world inshallah your labour progresses well. I am being induced at38 weeks but have mentally prepared myself for a c sec also x
i feel like i am going on holiday for three days, and being the control freak that i am, i cannot help stress over my to do list that i have not completed.
i am also worried for the bay's health. Please pray for me and the health of my baby.
Gave birth to healthy little boy on friday at 9.13pm
it ended being an emergency c-section despite the induction triggering good contractions. The baby wasnt coping well with his breathing.
I was with my baby till 8.30am this morning, saturday, and then he was transferred to special care baby unit to be monitored in an incubator. He has a chest infection which makes his breathing hard and so he wasnt feeding.
I expect him back in the ward with me by tmrw afternoon iA.
Also i have trouble expressing milk. I have no milk it seems. I try to massage and press but only mere drops come out. Please advice for milk production.
I was induced at the same time as you and also ended up with a C.
My milk took almost 5 days to come in. Until then I pumped what little I had of the colostrum. My son was born a healthy weight but lost two pounds since he wasn't feeding well. What could I do? I had to supplement until it came in.
