Umar Akmal's Batting Position

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

There is a reason Im saying from ages that Misbah's captaincy in ODI has been below par

Umar at 6 are u kidding me

Farhat and Malik the biggest parchis are playing under Misbah

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

The reason is that you want him replaced by you know who. :D

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

Yes Younis Khan should be the captain :D

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

While everyone else is failing Umer Akmal is scoring some runs atleast. He should definatley be played higher up the order. He may not be Asif Iqbal / Michale Bevan or Ponting/Lara but he certainly is a good enough batsman to go much higher than the #6 spot he is aloted at right now. Hafeez & Farhat will both be technically inedequate in foreign conditions. Our whole batting line up needs a shake down just like the Indian batting line up. Bring young blood in if the same old faces keep failing over & over again.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

He should bat at no4

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

Absolutely! and not only Hafeez and Farhat but also YK and Misbah dont deserve to be in the team in ODI and T20's.

and here we are now, as I had said, Eng were using the batting friendly conditions to bring KP back to form, and now he is back in form and will be serving eng cricket for good and UA was deprived of any chance to regain his confidence and form in above underlined golden opportunities. Thank You Misbah and Mohsin Khan!

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

I understand about YK not being ODI/T20 material but Hafeez and Misbah too?? Farhat shouldn't be in any team but to his luck his susar happens to always land on one of selection positions.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

One good innings does not mean he has become world beater again. Lets see how he performs in the next few matches, if he performs well than yes, otherwise the way he has been playing recently it will be a flash in the pan.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

The thing about Hafeez is that he don't have the technique and mental toughness to survive (consistently) against Tier one teams (in my opinion, AUS, SA/ENG) in tough situations and good bowling attack, He looks as good as anyone against BD,SL,Zim, Eng and perhaps even NZ but even against these teams he needs to have non challenging batting conditions to do well. Take this series for example, he is first time up against a challenging bowler in Finn and he seems totally out of sorts, where as he scored runs after runs against NZ,SL,ZIM,BD.

Thats my opinion and you could have a different opinion, I would personally take a young opening batsman and groom him so that he can take on all international sides and not just SL,BD,Zim,NZ and india. and we do have some good young batsman that are not given constant chances in Sharjeel Khan, Awais zia (he seems very T20 specialist, but so did anwar for first 3 years on his career), azeem ghuman, Nasir Jamshed, Umar Amin, ahmed Shahzad and that guy Usman (cant remember his last name, he was taken to WI last year). But Pak cricket administrations either dont pick these guys regularly enough, and even when they do, the men in-charge on tour like captain and coach dont provide them with regular opportunities.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

absolutely, one has to perform constantly - and my beef is that in the underlined opportunities I posted above he was not and still is not been provided with right batting positions to play up to his potential. Would you agree or disagree with that?

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

I was talking about KP not UA. As for batting positions UA had ample opportunities in the last two matches to show his flair. In the first ODI he fluffed the chance and in the second one he played brilliantly but could not finish the job. Yes he should come higher in batting position, to see if he can do justice to his talent. No one is responsible for his current predicament apart from UA himself. If he had applied himself when he was given the chance instead of playing silly shots and getting out than it would have been a different story. As I have always said he has talent but putting that to good and valuable use for the team has been sorely lacking.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

What about South Africa? Do you consider SA bowlers as 'challenging' or are they okay bowlers? Last time SA visited UAE against Pakistan Hafeez scored 203 runs at average of 40. Against Eng in Eng he scored at ave of 33.40.

Of course I would love to see new players being given chances but problem is our PCB.

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

So you think he has what it takes to perform consistently against Tier-1 teams under tough circustances - just the way other opening/top order batsman from SA/AUS/Eng perform?

PS: Aab Aaya Ounthhh Paahaarr Key Neechey :D

Re: Umar Akmal’s Batting Position

I think he is a decent all-rounder to open the innings for now. May be you can tell us who is the next Lara/Tendulkar/Ponting/Saeed Anwar waiting on the benches to replace Hafeez? He is ranked 18th, Imran Farhat is ranked 17th in domestic. Players above these two are either older or tried and tested or they are middle order batsman.

aur ounth paharh pe charh gaya :chai:

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

I am still waiting for you to answer my question...:D

Then I asked you a question who would you replace Hafeez with and you didn’t answer my question

Re: Umar Akmal's Batting Position

O Bhai.....sedha Jawab dain...Yaahan tou Aik Waleed Bhai Kaafi they, Upar sey Aaap bhiiii?

This doesnt answer the question on if you think he has what it takes to perform consistently against Tier-1 teams under tough circustances - just the way other opening/top order batsman from SA/AUS/Eng perform?

29.6

Briggs to Umar Akmal, OUT, 89.3 kph, down the pitch, in the air, he hasn't caught this properly and **holed out to long off.** Didn't get to the pitch, still tried to lift the ball over the fence and paid the penalty, a simple chance for Dernbach coming in a couple of yards from the fence

 **Umar Akmal c Dernbach b Briggs 12 (21b 1x4 0x6) SR: 57.14 **

Proves my point yet again.
