What I don't understand is, if these muslims are coopting a tenet of the religion, why are they not shunned or defeated from within if they are in such a minority?

Every time some muslim says something against these types, religious thuggery prevails, scriptures are brought out and the person is shamed into not being islamic enough. This is the reality. There is thuggery by a lot of the clergy in today's islam. This needs to change. Calls for Jihad don't come out of policy discussions, they come out of Mosques. The terrorist groups invoke the name of you god, your prophet in doing the heinous acts. They themselves want ot be reffered in terms of Allah's most pious adherents. I wrote muslims u engae in voilence are not practicing religion but the very opposite.. Quran clearly says what Jihad is and what violence is.. as killing of children, women, eldery non-combatants is totally forbidden how can these acts be Islamic? In most cases there is no familial loss that motivates these terrorists. the NYtimes ran an article about the female bomber from Chechnya who blew her self up a couple of weeks back. there was no personal loss as a driver for her actions;. Only the "madrassah" like brainwashing that was done to her by the "mullahs"...who strapped a "bomb" to that "terrorist". What you are doing is sugar coating the problem. To say that there is no misinterpretation of jihad is wrong. The atricle from CSM speaks volumes. This is just one of many.

so u belive that Israeli Govt is not terrosrists by killing more civilians but those suicide bombers are? same case for every Govt mentioned.. if not family members occupation of some other govt and killing is a fact.. but in palestinian case most family members join.. plus as mentioned above whatever those killers to is their own action and nt sanctioned by Islam..
