I went bham yesterday to see whats in the shops at the moment. im getting married some time next year and am starting to get ideas for clothes for myself, my bridal outfit, my sister in laws bridal outfit, grooms outfits and my sisters outfits (i have 4 sisters). i have been seeing some gorjus clothes here on gupshup and on the internet so thought id go check some shops out and see whats in the shops! i was sooo bitterly disappointed as they still have all the old stuff. like the disgusting netted frocks and the standard lehengas with short shirts n fishtail lehengas. everything was the same and generic n NOTHING stood out. i went ladypool road and soho road into practically every shop. where is all the new designs with long flowing shirts and the beautiful lehengas? i cant go pakistan otherwise id jump on the next plane! does anybody have any idea where i could find something that is more upto date and also some formals for the rest of my sisters to wear. ill try and insert some pics for the kinda thing im looking for! would appreciate any good pointers of where i can find stuff! P.S. am not filthy rich so i need places that are reasonably priced!
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Why don;t you take pics of waht you want and ask if you can get it made?
most places will oblige quite happily!
Good luck with your shopping/preparation- enjoy!!
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Did you check out Alum rock road? There are Aleezay, Panache, Laaj, and World of Fashion on Ladypool Road that have reasonable stuff.
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
i went to panache wasnt really paying much attention to the shops names was just going into each one. no didnt really check out alum rock rd but ive heard its not all that.
saheli yes thats what i was thinking what i mite do but dnt know which shops to approach plus i wanted to see some clothes in those styles just to see how they look after trying them on and getting a feel of what type of clothes we want to buy! i have so many outfits to get i need them to be reasonable aswell. i seen 2 few suits in panache that where longer in length althoug not THAT long and they were over £500 each! i have 4 sisters n thats like £1500 each if all the clothes are in that price range and thats not including the dholki outfits and the prewedding dinner and other formals for me! lol. ive been getting ideas on the internet for sooo long its just a shame i cudnt find anything similar in real life!!

This is a problem we have all the time in London too, some shops are still stuck in the 90s, although part of this is because some girls have chavvy tastes and the shops will supply according to demand. If you're looking to come to London I can give you a few pointers for shops which have nice clothes, although not many of them are cheap. You can also ask a few shops to get you custom-made clothes but i'm not sure about the prices of these either!
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
yes please! im planning a trip to london late jan. i remember last time i went to southall was jan 2011 and i did see some nice stuff there!!!some pointers would be very much appreciated!! i DETEST the short shirt and lehenga style!
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Saloo007. What about Imani Studios in Manchester, might be worth trying them. for the prices that they charge maybe they have more updated options?
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
I’m having the same problem. If I had £3000 and upwards to spend on a lengha then I would easily buy from Imaani, O’nitta or Gul’s Style in London in order to get a designer piece. However I don’t have that sort of money and I’m so desperate that I’m even considering of placing an online/phone order for my lengha from a designer in Pakistan like Rani Eamaan etc without visiting their store for fittings etc. It’s the worst option but I’m willing to take the risk just so I don’t wear some christmas tree tack from the UK.
Even the long shirt style that these Indian shop designers create are beyond tacky.
What a headache.![]()
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
i went amani studio and it was te only place i saw the kinda thing i was looking for but he quoted me £5500 for one of the lehengas n like i sed theres two weddings and a whole family to buy for! just like tahiya i was looking at online designers and having a replica made but not only am i scared of fittings but also the quality! what if im not happy with it!? or something goes wrong?? i have no idea what to do!!
i cnt believe ppl still wear the tacky stuff!!

I understand your situation. I'm afraid I would never get a replica made especially if I don't know the tailor etc. My plan is to get my aunty in Pakistan to order on my behalf from the actual designers so that I can get it slightly cheaper. My maximum budget is £2000 and Rani Eamaan is within this budget.
I live in brum and i agree with the whole stuck with the short top fishtail design.. Some of the 'pakistani' designs r rubbish.. I took a rana noman bridal pic which he told me it would cost £4500 from O'nittas to Sache on alum rock road and he said he could replicate it.. But ive decided im going to go for a sana safinaz bridal insha'Allah and try stretch my budget abit more, i have 5 sisters mashallah so wer all planning to get most of the stuff frm pak and the saris frm here, its just the same ol crap here and im sick of the colour red.! Pink and turqouise lol
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Bellashabba i want a sana safinaz dress!! but i refuse to pay those prices! i went bradford and the lady from dadhkan sed she can replicate it but then again i cnt decide whom to trust. i would love love love to go pakistan. but my uncle and my dad have gone now n will be back in january. but i cnt go coz of work and plus i didnt want to risk getting my stuff now and liking something better nearer to the wedding! i swear this is really stressing me out since i been bham yesterday. i did see one i like in silons.. but it was short shirt which they said they can elongate. so im going to check in feb if i dnt find anything i might have to throw a tantrum and make my uncle take me pakistan!!
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Places like Gul's style and imani have lovely clothes but they are total rip offs, unfortunately, they quote around £3K for an average lengha which is decently heavy. Im never gonna buy any wedding clothes from London, they charge far too much and their stuff is never as nice as the stuff available in Pakistan. Maybe you should request a sample outfit (like a cheaper outfit) from potential tailors online so you can see the quality/fitting etc before spending a bigger amount on the wedding dress?
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Tell me about it…I went to London over the weekend and there were a few long shirt bridal outfits, but they weren’t all that. I want to cry…
The only other option is to get it made, or to persuade my parents to allow me to go to Pakistan. Or I just wear the tack and look tacky.
However, I am hoping that by next year there will be nicer stuff. Saloo, let’s start praying…
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
trust me disney princess im praying! i came back prectically pulling my hair out from bham. im going to check out the shops in manchester again. i havnt been for about two months. gonna do after xmas and hope things are looking up abit.
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Why don't you guys try one of the GS Designers?
Some of these guys have really solid clients on GS now...I have ordered from stoppit (was very happy) and prototype is another one who I've heard good things about.
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Unfortunately unless you have a massive budget I think most asian shops in the UK cater more towards indian style fashions, hence the shorter tops.
Burooj and Je Roche are quite popular in Manchester for Pakistani-style bridals (here’s a link to some of Burooj’s collection from earlier on this year http://asianfashionblog.co.uk/2011/03/burooj-at-manchester-asian-wedding-show.html - you will need to make an appointment to view though)
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
Totally agree, Gul’s Style and Seasons in Ilford have beautiful clothes but as you said they are TOTAL rip offs, even a very causal evening dress will cost no less than £300-£400 at Gul’s style but the clothes are very trendy ![]()
Pakistan is the best place to shop for wedding clothes if you have a choice, you can always get in touch with various vendors advertising here on GS, and as Reha said there are some very good reviews about prototype ![]()
Re: UK Shops Stuck In 2009!
burooj and imani studio in Manchester…and someone mentioned Gul’s style… ![]()
