Uggs for Canadian Winter

Hey everyone!!! I’m currently looking for winter boots and have found myself gravitating towards a nice pair of Uggs. The only thing is that I don’t want to cough up close to $400 for something that may not be practical for me to wear every single day of winter in Toronto. I know they are warm and comfortable but are they 100% waterproof?

So, peeps who are proud owners of Uggs boots, could you please share your experience with these boots in winter and specify the kind of winter you get where you live?

Thanks!!!

KKF - aapko yeh jootay pehenne ka experience hai kia :)? And as for your question, yes, I suppose they do have generic versions of these. I'd not like to get shoes off of ebay, though. I am very picky about my footwear and how they fit and feel :)

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

By the way, I’ve a pair of ridiculously warm and comfortable slippers from uggs…OMG, you’ve got to try those on…They have got them for men, too.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

...I HATE UGGS! I cannot believe I wore a pair in HS. They look like bear feet and look hideous. And I think a bit too generic/overkill. Why not try a more sophisticated shoe like a flat suede one or something that doesn't look like Big Foot's chopped off foot. :p

I grew up in Canada so I can understand your pain about finding perfect winter shoes but trust me, UGGs are really ugly and clunky and most people nowadays find them really off-putting. Also, most guys I know (not that their opinion matters) really cant stand them and put them right up there with crocs.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

I used to think Uggs were hideous too. Actually, they are STILL hideous and will always BE hideous. However, there is not a single shoe out there that can compare to the comfort level of Uggs! Last year was the first time I wore a (fake) pair, and my life has changed! On a cold winter day, stuck on the crowded public transit in traffic, walking around in the snow, those shoes got me through all of it! I feel like I'm walking on clouds! I KNOW they look like deleted, but if I'm heading to school, I just wanna be comfy dammit!

There was NO WAY I was going to pay hundreds of dollars for them, and most of the fake versions I saw were even uglier than the original (if that's even possible! lol!). However, in this random shoe store in this random ghetto plaza, I came across a fake pair that not only looked decent, but were JUST as light and soft and comfortable as the original! For how much? $20!!!!!!!!!!!! And they lasted me all winter!

They are NOT waterproof. They're okay in snow, but if you step in a puddle it's quite gross, cuz the padding soaks up all the water, and then you REALLY feel like bigfoot, clunking around in them.

I say don't bother dropping the cash on Uggs. Go for a fake pair. They'll still be soft and warm, and your wallet will thank you. Your inner fashionista, however, will not, but that's something I've come to terms with in the name of comfort :)

PS: I live in Toronto too

i LIVE in **Lucknow***...NOT too far from Toronto :D*

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

I love my UGGs. They don't cost $400 bucks! I think the most expensive ones are around $250 unless you're referring to the leather ones. Those might be more expensive.

They are so warm and perfect for running errands or for even casual outings. You could be wearing sheer stockings and can slip on your UGGs and you'll feel so warm! They are also really comfortable! I want to buy the knit ones this year. They are really cute!

Also, I've never viewed them as a fashion statement...they are more like a necessity for me! I think they are extremely useful for Canadian and North East winters. I live in the North East and we also have pretty brutal winters.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

LOL! HOnestly speaking, I kind of sort of agree with you on them being a bit (if not a lot) hideous. It's just that I want a pair of boots that 1) keep feet warm when I'm out there waiting for the bus or walking around 2) are waterproof 3) are comfortable and flat as I cannot walk in heels to save my life.

I saw some really nice suede and leather boots the other day but the problem is that neither of them had ridged soles which made me wondered if they would provide any traction. Up until last year, I was in school and could get away with wearing whatever. This winter is different as I'm working f/t and go to school p/t and, therefore, need something that doesn't look unprofessional but is comfortable enough for me to wear all day long.

Urgghh...who knew finding the right pair of winter boots could be so difficult. It's almost as difficult as finding the right banda....Gee!!!!

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

Jee, I remember that you live in Lucknow, ON from the last time we had a little chat. To aap kaise jootay pehente hain sardion mein...koi suggestion to den?

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

Thanks so much for your detailed input, RPakistani :) hmm, so they are not waterproof, then? I really want a pair that could sustain the snow and slush because I'm literally out and about in the city for up to 15-16 hours in a stretch each day. So when you're not wearing your Uggs or the replica Ugga, which boots do you wear? Any particular brand/store that I should pay a visit, in your opinion?

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

I've never owned any but in regards to waterproofing and stuff, probs don't compare the fakes to the real ones.

The fake ones go all weird as well. The sole usually wears down on the inside or back and people start walking funny, it looks so dumb.

In the UK, it's pretty common to see people wearing wellington boots in the winter on the rainy days or during the snowy periods. You can get wedge ones and smarter designs with fur lining and stuff.

I'm sure you can find some nice leather knee length boots with a decent sole... just gotta keep looking.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

i have real Uggs and they are awesome! And they are waterproof (buy the spray and use it regularily). Ive shovelled the driveway in my Uggs and my feet were still warm and dry. they are a great investment because they last a while. But buy them in the states, they are cheaper. Way cheaper.

Yeah uggs are waterproof AND snow proof. If you're looking for something that's just comfortable and will keep your feet warm then get uggs. They're worth it definitely. I wore uggs for the last two years and fake ones before and fake ones don't even compare to the real ones because the fake ones go all weird at the heel and people look retarded. But I ripped them and plus I'm growing out of the ugg phase. But that doesn't mean i won't wear them to the 24h tesco/asda in the middle of the night with my Nike joggers! Chavs eat your heart out LOL

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

i usually wear my uggs to work and then change into appropriate shoes for the office. no big deal.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

why would you wear stockings if you’re so concerned about cold? that what I never get…wearing uggs with shorter skirts. :konfused:

I used to think Uggs were ugly but I think I am definitely gonig to invest in a pair this winter…we had a really awful winter this year and my rainboots annoyed the heck out of me..

PS, not sure if they ship to canada, but try DSW shoe ware house?

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

If you're wearing them just for outside and will be changing shoes when you reach your destination, then you might be wearing stockings and no need put extra socks on or anything.

Re: Uggs for Canadian Winter

I live in Toronto too and in the winter I LIVE in my Emus. They're a cheaper, and better (in my opinion) version of Uggs. Emus have better traction and the suede is water resistant so any water or snow just beads off of it not damaging it.
