U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

America made clear last week that it would attack Taliban forces in their Swat valley stronghold unless the Pakistan government stopped the militants’ advance towards Islamabad.
A senior Pakistani official said the Obama administration intervened after Taliban forces expanded from Swat into the adjacent district of Buner, 60 miles from the capital.
The Pakistani Taliban’s inroads raised international concern, particularly in Washington, where officials feared that the nuclear-armed country, which is pivotal to the U.S. war against the Taliban in Afghanistan and against Al Qaeda, was rapidly succumbing to Islamist extremists.
“The implicit threat - if you don’t do it, we may have to - was always there,” said the Pakistani official. He said that under American pressure, Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence agency told the Taliban to withdraw from Buner on Friday.
However, reports Saturday indicated that the Taliban withdrawal was less than total. As a result, hundreds of thousands of people in the district were still at the mercy of armed militants and their restrictive interpretation of Islamic law.
American military and intelligence forces already run limited ground and air operations on Pakistani soil along the border with Afghanistan. But an overt military operation such as that threatened in Swat, away from the border, would mark a major escalation.
The official said last week’s outspoken remarks by Hillary Clinton, the U.S. secretary of state, were “calculated to ramp up the pressure on Pakistan” to take action. Clinton warned that the terrorists’ advance had created a “mortal threat” to world security.
She was one of several American political and military leaders to use unusually strong language about Pakistan’s failure to curb the Taliban. Admiral Mike Mullen, chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, who visited Pakistan, said he was “extremely concerned” about the developments and that the situation was “definitely worse” than two weeks ago.
General David Petraeus, of US Central Command, which oversees Afghanistan - to which America is about to commit 17,000 more troops - said Al Qaeda and Taliban extremists in Pakistan posed an “ever more serious threat to Pakistan’s very existence.”

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

With a crippling economy I don't think USA can afford to open another front by attacking Pakistan.
They are already swamped in IRAQ and Afghanistan. A military adventure in Pakistan is against America's own interest.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

^^^ Thats what you think.

Amreeka has been stoping Taliban for last 8 years, Afghanistan is a shining example of that.. Please follow the link below to see how Amreeka SUCKccessfully took care of Taliban in Afghanistan.

Now it will stop Taliban in Pakistan… wah! wah! 80 percent of Amreekas body mass must be nothing but brain.

Exactly thats what i wanted to convey too. Plus we are not Afghanistan or Iraq…we are a nation with 160 million bravehearts and we are nuclear

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

Yet we surrender in front of taliban or previously in front of indians in 1971.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

This American Statement is nothing more than a joke, these Americans are trying to overcome these talibans since 2001, still have no chance to accomplish it, and they are saying that they will stop taliban.. they are stupid no doubt about it...

If only they can send ground troops into Tribal Areas

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

^^ hahahhahah

u are saying that these GOOD FOR NOTHING american soldiers, after getting their asses kicked by Afghans, can come and control the FATA region...

It is about time that the US Forces should admit that, it is their incompetency which is the major cause of their humiliating defeat and not the FATA or ISI.. so they must stop blaming others and start doing their job right..

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

what utterly amazes me that we have people here who call taliban and their supporters or sympathisers as sub humans, nazis or what not yet have no qualms suggesting mass killing to fix the "problem".

They are blaming FATA as if they have control over the mounatinous regions of Afghanistan… :hehe:

Sorry to say that our own economy is in the same situation, whatever may be the reason, but it is a truth and our govt is 100% dependent on western countries and USA. If they want to harm pakistan, they dont need military attack. They can close all aid for Pak and then our govt will be ready to accept their terms.
If we see the stance "u do it or else we shall do it for u" as a neutral person, it is right and our govt should not let this stage to come.

When US attacked Afghanistan US was going thru another recession.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

I don't think Pakistan actually have any Taliban force.. these Taliban we see on TV are fake ones to get all Western countries excited and give them an excuse to attack Pakistan. It's nothing but an insidious propaganda.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

^ Do you mean Pakistani army is fighting aliens in Fata/Swat?

Not a single American soldier has surrendered to the Taliban. Where was over 1,000 Pakistani Soldiers have.

Americans are tough soldiers.........I know its hard for you to admit....because a key board warrior like you....who knows absolutely nothing about the military....

Where as my cousin was a Captain in the US Army and both my dad and my uncle have served in the Pakistani Army. So I speak from experience.

The problem is that each time US troops encounter Taliban Nazis... the talbian nazis get their ass kicked and run back into Pakistan.

If only US ground troops can pursue them in there and Pakistan send its troops to block their escape eastward.

They would get wiped out and this menace which is plaguing the world would be eradicated.

These people deserve to DIE!

Whether you mr.hanibal like it or not.

They temporairly do. When they send in ground troops…the taliban run into Pakistan.

Afghanistan is a big country and US has only 30,000 troops there so its hard to secure it geographically.

And don’t gloat over US failures in Afghanistan.

Pakistan gains absolutely nothing with the Taliban winning in Afghanistan. They will use it as a spring board to launch attacks into Pakistan.

And Pakistan will be declared a terrorist state.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

lol now i've heard it all, Americans are invincible....

With all the modern and sophisticated weaponary they couldn't defeat the stone aged Afghanis with AK47's
I highly doubt that USA can dare to launch an offense on Pakistan.

Re: U.S. to Pakistan: Stop the Taliban, or We Will

Though the reality of what is going in the Pakistan is obscure, But I think Pakistan being a poor country and considering the problems the people facing here like, A very big number of people just die each year because of in-availability of pure water. There are many similar problems we all know that.

We don't need WARS, These adventures are not for us. We shall accept the reality of our situation and stop supporting the militancy.

We are a weak country with a strong ARMY, which puts us in a confused kind of state and often start adventures which are not meant for us, we should look at the other third world countries and live peacefully in our region, and leave WARS for super powers..
