Its a pity if it is so. Military should be designed to defend the nation from anyone, not engage one particular country.
But, in any case, I think USA could not handled bombing Pakistan. They just scared Pakistani authorities, and successfully I must say.

It is good to see so many Pakistanis geting agitated overy Mushy's alleged docility to US. It is very important that things are understood in the proper perspective. Mushy would have realised long back that his position would not be tenable with the growing influence of Taliban in Afghanistan and moreso in Pakistan. It was only a matter of time before Laden realised that Mushy was just paying lipservice to his brand of Islam. Laden would definitely have turned the tide on Mushy. Mushy for his part was waiting for an opportune moment to part ways with Taliban. This came as a god send opportunity for him. Remember Powell's statement ** " I did not believe that Mushy would agree to whatever I asked him to do".** This is not an exact quote, but the gist of what Powell said.

I seem to remember Powell alluding to the fact that he was prepared to make several offers to Pakistan, and that he was generally shocked when Musharraf accepted the first thing put on the table I think comments were made to the effect that there is typically give and take in these situations, and so he was expecting some sort of counter-offer. At that point in history, Pakistan could have asked for the moon and America would have been willing to deal.
I think Musharraf is full of it, and busy trying to cover his own behind right now.

Pakistani nukes cannot reach the US but they can easily reach and cover all of India. If an all out attack on Pakistan was launched with indian help What would Pakistani response be? I think India would have gone back to the stone age too with Pakistan cause all pakistani nukes and missiles would be unleashed on India with their full might.

Given how much money the Gulf states poored into Pakistan (during and after the cold war), I'd say this comment is at odds with reality.

Possibly, but it's certainly not a new development. Eric Margolis also reported the very same thing (i.e. the US threat of bombing Pakistan back to the stone age) right around the time of the Afghan invasion.
What it could be is hyperbole on the part of the intel guy who was reporting to Mushy...

There is no doubt pakistan is morally humbled by americans. but let me assure you india would be the last nation to have supported US for bombing pakistan. afterall we can never trust those american *******s. they are so unpredictable. they can go to any limit to maintain their superiority.
mind well friends, british left india but broke us into two and kept us fighting with each rather than use our resources for constructive purposes and overtake them. how dare american threaten pakistan to take them to stone age?? because pakistanis still now understood the world politics. it was american who harboured taliban when soviets invade afghanistan. they supplied them arms and supports to fight with soviets. they encourgaged islam fundamentalism in afghanistan. that time taliban was accepted to them. suddenly, bush woke up and bombed afghanistan. why?? actually, taliban is a herd of henchmen who don't have brain. give them a pistol and they will fire. they are simply brainless. americans used them for their purpose and finish them when use is over. they will do the same with pakistan. pakistan has to be very careful while dealing with that evil country.

Its common knowledge that we had no choice in the matter. The question is why is the President saying this now? Its very odd he would break away from his usual stance and say the US threatened to carpet bomb us, considering he has always backed the US for the past 5 years. He doesn't need any support back home and he has been doing just fine with the people being pissed off with him for years. So what is the game now?

Mushi shot on his foot by making this fact public. Its the beggining of his end. I think he said this because he got pissed with Bush on the comment that they would send US force into Pakistan.
It need courage to face such situations. I think Iran is in a similar or maybe worse situation right now, but those guys will not bend so easily to US suprimacy (do not know if they are right or wrong, not talking about that right now), although they have much weaker army compared to Pakistan. Or maybe this is not the truth, maybe US supplied arms have a remote lock that won't let those arms switch on agains US.
Just think if Pakistan had better relations with India (kind of like US Canada Mexico), no one in the world would dare to look at Pakistan with bad intensions. Certainly there is power in unity.
But what can I say, Paksitan has been busy training terrorist against India and building army to counter India. Your vision does not go beyond India.

Heck someone speaks sense here, after all. It is so sad to note that a lot of posters here support the same vultures who've robbed Pak for the last 50 years -- the politicians like BB and Nawaz the buddhaa with a makeover that would make the queer eye guys look stupid. They actually want *Pak to go back to the stone ages. A point to note -- in the whole scenario following the terrorist attacks of 9/11, the Indian leadership made a lot of positive noises to get the Americans to use *their soil to attack Afghanistan. If Pak didn't co-operate, all the "fanatics" [like someone said before] would have been cussing at Musharraf for letting that happen to Pak, destrying the country and so forth. So in the end, his decision was the right one, and the rest of the world does deserve to know what were the exact mechanics behind his decision, which he is doing now.

I appreciate Navtech's comments and agree that India and Pakistan should be more united to fight of the al qaeda terrorists, as well as any undue pressure from other countries.
