indeed. then your man kucinich and my man ron paul would be in a battle of the small crazy old men, instead of this group of "front runners".

Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
I find it offensive and very un-democratic that I am only allowed to choose from 2 choices. Nothing is that black and white. There isn't a group, organization or platform out there that can contain all the ideas I agree with - even the most important ones.
At minimum, we need a strong 3rd party that is more fiscally conservative that the Democrats and more socially moderate than the Republicans. A large portion of Americans fall in that category.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Independents wouldn't cut it either?
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Seminole, your perpetuating the myth that Republicans are the fiscally conservative party. 70% of the U.S. debt has occured under Reagan, Bush, and Dubya.
Ravage, crazy Kucinich does have the hot young wife going for him.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
The Republicans are supposed to be the fiscally conservative party. They haven't been. I am not in favor of spending more than we take in - the GOP has made huge mistakes in their huge tax cuts.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
thats the christian base there, the GOP ceased to be the fiscally conservative party because of people like Bush and Huckabee.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
If you see this as a contest between the two parties it is a mistake. American presidency has always been defined by the individual. That is why you see so many many presidencies where the party and the president beome disconnected and even opposite as the presidency progresses in time.
Hence I look at the individual and give no credence to party. As individuals McCain, Romney and Obama (in that order) seem (emphasize seem) honest and clear headed. Ron Paul actually made a lot of sense but his crack pot side makes him ineligible.
Also I am surprised that Pakistanis here seem against McCain - he was the only one who consistently spoke against torture and for respect.
Ali / Teggy: how come?
StirCrasey, we are far beyond the time when one individual could change and effect the world on his own ways. Do you agree or not?!
So how come you can be so sure whatever that guy McCain blabbers to become reality one day. Yes, you can never be sure about the rest either. But I failed to trust McCain on the day he had his hard stance on other Islamic Country at Jay Lenon right after 911. He has had a U-Turn after a year or two and made every one believe he stands for peace, justice and the American way....I dont believe in his words at all. Thus I consider others (especially the democrats to be best solution for Pakistan's way to DEMOCRACY!). If we wish to have Mush as a dictator and the Army to rule another 100 years over Pak, lets vote for any neo-con. Paying a high price of unjust and tyranic regime over our nation. And I strictly oppose that. You see there is a difference between one who would think people like Modhi make best business for Gujrat and one who believes justice has to prevail over economic wealth.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Ali bro! you are right if one knows only 15 years history of America.
For those who care to "learn" a bit more than 15 years, there are tonnes of examples where democratic presidents went to much bigger wars than puny GWI or GWII.
Oh well! As they say Little knowledge is dangerous for puny minds (Neem Hakim.....)
So you say I have little knowledge regarding the way Democrats think. Ok be It. But I have stated my answers on the reply at StirCraseys post.
Read up!
GWI and GWII were caused by democractic leaders in the USA? I thought other historical events triggered the war and proclaimed the involvement of such countries. But Im sure you can enlighten more about your interpretation of how such events were triggered by democractic leaders of the States.
The only thing you and your think alikes fear: Army rule no more to be backed up by the States, thus the reinstate of democracy + our mashallah very liberal Attaturk reincarnation leader to be no more on his kursi to oppress his nation another 8 years.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
No I have read his interviews in regards to Pakistan
He said that the approach to Pakistan was totally wrong
USA needs a Pakistan policy not a Musharraf policy
Do you think the Senate will agree with him on every word he has stated in the article? First of all I believe that guy is nothing much than prattler (like Berlusconi!) and secondly I have no trust in him whatsoever (Im repeating myself), third and finally I hardly believe he will win the elections anyway.

Yes a more liberal one and one who can freely, openely oppose all these wars and occupations while cleaning up own mess created.
But then this wouldnt be the US of A.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Absolutely correct Ali!
These are the kinda people that resort to meddle in others personal lives to justify their hatred. Republican's biggest worry was Clinton getting head. However, the entire of world agreed that it was his personal life and it did not affect his role as a President. They cried foul like 'oh he has embarrased the country, must be impeached'. Bush has embarrased the country 100 times over, yet you see the democrats being patient and giving him the fair chance to live out his presidency. Yes there's politics and they're cashing in on the antimosity people hold for him and his party, but atleast they don't go peeking into his personal life like um......Chenney's daughter was gay and he's against gays...wth? And that Jenna and the other one went partying in Cancun and their purse was stolen, mind you while they were secured by Secret Services :CareBear:
What they're ashamed to mention is that during Democrats time in power, economy has always been strengthened. The public at-large has always prospered, and lets not forget that it was during Clinton administration that the country's deficit was erased and we all saw a surplus.
But no no, those are petty things. Ofcourssseeeeee, but lets also remember Clinton didn't even want to be seen with Musharraf, hence him avoiding public support for his coup in 99.
I could go on and on and on....but it's like talking to a blimmin Wall with these rightist folks.
Exactly, whatever he has done or not done to Pakistan (Clinton). He was a great leader and one of the very few, who actually had done a lot for his own people with less "haata paayi" on other countries and with damage controll policies against the not so favourite countries of USA.
I still admire him.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
While there is a chance that McCain can break away from the pack and be a real front-runner after Florida and Super Tuesday; I don't think Dem ticket race will be decided any time soon. That one is going to the wire, IMO. The ugly rancor between Clintons and Obama campaign will leave a bitter taste and will fracture the party for the general election race.
And to think that this is an election for Dems to lose. An unpopular incumbant president. An extremely unpopular war. Disastrous foreign policy. No clear legacy. Economy in the recession. A strong desire for change. What else can Dems ask for?
One wild card is Bloomberg. I doubt Nader will have as much impact in the general election any more (IMO, he is a spent force). But if Bloomberg comes in and starts taking away independents, it will create chaos for both parties. McCain, if he gets the nod, is already not popular with Republican base. If Bloomberg storm happens, it will take away some of the middle-ground voters that are so cherished.

Huh! So Carter was a Republican? And I am not even going to the new deal of FDR.
Tegs bro! I always thought you are among the few who do their homework. May be you slipped on this one. Oh well. I hope you do better next time.
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Looks like Hillary and McCain are winning Florida! Well anyway, atleast Gulliani will be sent away after this
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Hillary winning Florida is inane, since no Democrat campaigned in that state... and hopefully Democratic party will stick with its earlier decision not to seat Florida's delegates anyway. Only if the whole thing goes to the wire, will Florida delegates become important (we all know what Hillary wants here).
Guilliani is the biggest goof ball I know. National front-runner all summer and he gambled it all on 2 states (Florida and California). His unorthodox campaign strategy has backfired terribly; and should be a case study in how not to run for the President. McCain, written off only a few weeks ago, is a story of how to pull it together when it matters.

Yup McCain will be the nominee for the Republicans
Question is who will his Vice President be.....

I wouldnt be so sure. G.W. Bushs re-election was quite a surprise for the average European, but then Kerry was no match and a too weak of a candidate. Nevertheless since the last elections It seems Americans have a different set of mind, when It comes to elect their own President.
I hope to see Obama win, but this seems to be more of a wishfull thinking then anything else.

GOPs bigger mistakes in effing up the economy is to do with the trillion they dropped in the unnecessary wars and Some of the bad Russia relations that took away the ability to counter the oec on the price war.
The tax cuts were not all that bad - the reduction of l.t capital gains and qualified dividends tax rates is a necessary change to a long term injustice
Re: U.S. Presidential Primary Watch 2008
Edwards and Guilliani ( I hardly knew you) are both dropping out.
As far as Bloomberg goes, I think it's more interesting speculating on if he was to be picked up as VP.
