Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
A Democratic sweep would be an unfortunate outcome of the mid-term elections. Democrats are a squabbling bunch who can't formulate or present a coherent strategy for eye-rack nor the homeland security. Atleast bush and his GOP cronies have the temerity to go against the grain. If a radical albeit unpopular approach is needed to fix eye-rack, Bush and GOP can do it.
Masses were wrong to support the war in 2003 and masses will be wrong again to vote Dems in to clean up GOP/Neo-Con's mess.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
In CA, we surely gonna have the same Schwarzenegger. According to the surveys, he does have the lead.
I used to prefer him as a governor but since I've heard his speech against Muslims, I don't want him to win. He attended the protest that was organized by jews to honor Israel for attacking Lebanon. The LA mayor was there too but I guess, he realized lateron that it was a mistake since LA has a lot of Muslim community so he started giving clarifications afterwords. But I didn't hear anything from the governor. He infact, sent shirts to israeli soldiers to show them that US public was with them.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
he is just overdong it to hide his family's nazi past.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
everyone from germany and austria has a nazi past
whether they were drafted in the compulsory hitler youth, or when they were drafted to join the german military, or the volkstrum in 1945.....
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006

^
I'm not sure what you just said.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
I did, it took me an hour. The polling station opened at 7, I was there five minutes early and there were maybe a dozen people ahead of me. By the time I left there were the same number of people standing in line. My wife went around 9ish and she said she didn't have to wait at all.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
hahah I meant that I cant vote because I am not a citizen yet, and because of my name they probably need to do extra due diligence. and then I had a tongue in cheek remark that if it were upto some political pundits the illegals would get amnesty and become citizens and have a right to vote before my case is even finalized ![]()
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
Good for you ahmadjee.
Non-citizens are allowed access to the internet? I hope someone is motoring your usage. ;)
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
bets anyone?
my prediction is slim house gains for the democrats (10-15) and repubs retain senate by 3 seats.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
Dems take house be 20+
Senate prediction a bit later.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
thats a cop out, everyone can make predictions later :p
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
Pickup of 5, tenn sticks with Bush.
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
pickup of 5 means repubs retain senate by 1 seat right?
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
it would be 50-50 with VP dick casting the tie breaking vote, so yes it would remain Repub control.
That said I am still hopefully that the Senate will still swing to the Dems and I reserve the right to update my prediction. :)
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
House - Dems pick up 22
Senate - 50/50
Re: U.S. Elections: November 7th, 2006
My voting place is about .25 miles away - real close. I drove over to the school and easily found a parking place though the lot looked mostly full; just a handful of open spaces.
My next door neighbor is one of the precinct workers, and he helped by telling me what precinct I was in. There were about 4 precincts in this one polling place. I had only one person in line in front of me. When I got to the front of the line, the lady had a notebook with everyone's name and signature in it. No ID was required, she just asked me to spell my name, and I signed the book next to a xeroxed copy of my signature.
They gave me a voting machine activation card. There were two machines open, so there was no wait. The machine was one of the new electronic models with touch screen... I put the card in the slot and it said "card is invalid." A precinct worker came over right away and ejected the card for me (the voter can't eject the card). It worked the second time.
Voting was incredibly straightforward. The screen showed one or more races and all I had to do was point at the candidate of my choice. I didn't make any mistakes, but I did notice that if I did, it could be confusing - there's no way to change or fix your vote right away, you have to finish the ballot and then you can go back and fix things.
In fact, the machine was smart enough to notice I didn't vote in the Attorney General race and allowed me to go back and fix that.
When I was done, it printed out a paper version of my votes. The paper was behind glass so I couldn't touch it. It asked me to review my votes. It would have allowed me to change my votes even after this point.
Once I was satisfied, I touched the "count my vote" button, and it did.
Took about 10 minutes, including the drive there and back.
