Today at the mosque, a lady screamed at her kid : thair jaa mai teri tikka boti kerti hoo !
I laughed so hard, it reminded me of the awkward daant dialogues from my elders .. Some typical ones are :
Ulta latka doonga
sir kaano kai beech ker donga
Share the epic daant dialogues you got from your elders..
you won't believe that but my Dad never scolded me...i don't remember my mom scolding me either...i was 9 when my mom passed away and 15 when my Dad left this world. my Bhabhi sometimes did scold me when i was young...but that was quite mild, like...tum kab samjhoge? kia huaa tumkhaarii 'aql ko? kiuN apnii museebat bulaa rahe ho?
I am sorry to hear that you underwent such an immense loss at such a young age , KKF .. may Allah SWA bless them both with the highest darajahs in Jannah
My dadajee used to give me something similar , like " if this happens again, I am gonna turn you into peanut butter" .. I would just imagine how peanuts gets crushed and that was scary enough thought for me !
ohh and another epic one .. Dad used to say in Punjabi something like " khalri udair donga" .. My sister and I couldnt understand the word Khalri , at that time nor could we pronounce it, so we would say it as “khadri” .. and I can still vividly remember my sister would come to me and say , quick, hide, dad’s coming to udair your khadri

very sad to know, may Allah grant your parents jannah, and grant you a multitude of blessings for all your hardships.
Oh I've plenty but I'll share one for now as I'm in a hurry - "Tu ther ja mein teri haddiyon ka surma banati hun" - Mama recalls that the first time she said this to me, I was intrigued, not scared. I went up to her after a while and asked "Mama apne to meri haddiyon ka surma banana tha?"
Childhood "Wait until your dad gets home" (I would just start crying when dad came home, so I wouldn't get yelled at.)
Teenage/adulthood "Wait until you get married and have to deal with a saas" (She doesn't know I already read all the saas threads on life1, I am prepared to deal with saas)
aameen, summaa aameen. thank you so much for your kind words which mean a lot to me. at the time of my mom’s death, my two younger sisters were very young, the youngest was only 1 year old…i remember putting her in my lap and feeding her with the bottle and take care of her. i learned a lot about how to take care of babies/kids as a result of that.
aaaaaawwwwwww…this is NOT Punjabi, it’s Urdu…it’s actually “khalrii (khaal=skin) udheR [take off, utaarnaa, silaai udheRnaa mean undoing the stitches) duuNgaa” … meaning: i’l skin you! hehe…i knew it was a fun expression!
aameen to your du’aa and thank you for your kind words. it was difficult as you suggested to deal with taking care of siblings younger than me. Allah kaa shukr hai k i had an angel like Bhabhi who took care of us in every conceivable way!
