Two Pakistani air force A-5 training jets crashed Saturday, leaving one pilot Shaheed and other one severely injured, an air force spokesman said.
The Chinese-built A-5 jet crashed at Misriyal area near Chakwal, about 60 kilometers (40 miles) southeast of Islamabad of which the pilot-Zaheer Ahmed-managed to save his life by ejecting safely and landed by means of parachute, Air Commodore Sarfraz Ahmad.
Another PAF Mushtaq Jet crashed down at Charsda area of NWFP, killing its pilot killed and other one severely injured
The cause of the crash was not immediately known. Authorities
ordered an inquiry into the incident, which occurred on a training
mission. inna lillah e wa inna ilaieh e raajioon… 4 da Martyr
The A-5s are ridiculously old planes - they must surely be approaching the end of their serviceable lifespan, as well as becoming obsolete as a weapon.
Inshallah the PAF will begin phasing out the A-5s soon - from reading the specifications of the plane, I really cannot see what the A-5 can do that cannot be done by the Mirage III/V that Pakistan has in large numbers.
Having said that, this article has a number of confusing elements.
It claims that two A-5s crashed, but then only gives details of one crash of an A-5.
In addition, it says that the second plane was a “Mushtaq Jet”. The PAF operates no plane with such a name. It operates a plane called the Mushaak, but this is a propellor driven planes and is not a jet.
I fear once more for the quality of Pakistani journalism
very sad news, this is very not PAF like. But we have to admit that accidents do happen.

It's called the "Mushack". This jet is used in the PAF academy risalpur to train beginner pilots. Also there is another one called the "Super Mushack", which is also used for the same purpose.
Doesn't surprise me, I've met sikhs from Peshawar who don't have a bad word to say about the place. And that's supposed to be the badlands of Pakistan.
Maddie, so what is the standard of what makes one a shaheed? I don't care whatever they are but I am sure it sounds odd to include accidental deaths into that category?
NYA, pathans and sardars can be very loving people. why are you so surprised about it?
Mufakkar, I didn’t know that referring to Naswar-Khors as Pathan was derogatory. I don’t think it is, Pathan is a term to denote roughly 5 dozen tribes and 18 million people (11 million in Pakistan and 7 in Afghanistan).
^ I am not a Pashtun myself but I have heard from numerous Pashtun friends and relatives that "Pathan" is a derogatory term when I asked them why they are addressed as Pathan by others. Pakhtun or Pashtun means people of the hills or people from the north as I have been told (Maybe Zakk can clear this up). Besides, Pashtuns are not the only naswar khors. Ever been to northern Punjab?
