There was a time MQM would generate intense criticism because they would deliberately mar the legitimate debate of more provinces with ethnic bias. They’ve been in power with every type of government for over 36 years, but still didn’t manage to get any lasting breakthrough on the issue. It’s about time, they stop making hasty slogans out of frustration, stirring heated debates in the public eye, but quickly abandoning them in the middle once some backdoor deals are offered.
MQM really needs to thoroughly commit to this cause. They should know that greater devolution won’t be handed out to the people on platter. Yes, there will be fierce opposition, they’ll be attacked viciously from all corners. But if MQM manages to base their demand on legit reasons, logic and facts, they’d eventually manage to get their message across to the public and earn wider support. But the million dollar question is, does MQM have the patience and the vision to carry out a genuine public campaign to fight a particular cause?
