Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

damn, this is whole episode is spiralling.

ANKARA: Turkey on Thursday recalled its ambassador to Washington in anger at a resolution passed by a US Congress committee which says the Armenians were victims of genocide by the Ottoman Turks, Anatolia news agency said.

The ambassador, Nabi Sensoy, was recalled for consultations on the text which could now go before the full House of Representatives, said the news agency.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Thursday that his government would do everything possible to stop the adoption of the resolution by the full House and was studying possible action if the motion is passed.

At least 1.5 million Armenians were killed from 1915 to 1923 under an Ottoman Empire campaign of deportation and murder, according to Armenians.

Turkey strongly rejects the genocide label, but acknowledges that 250,000-500,000 Armenians and at least as many Turks died in strife after Armenians took up arms for independence.

The resolution was adopted by the House of Representatives Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday and President George W. Bush’s administration said it would lobby the full Democratic-led chamber against taking it further.

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

^^ idiotic of turkey

everyone knows that this genocide took place

turkey is too high and mighty to acknowledge as it will be insulting to their great ottoman empire

Americans have acknowledged the genocide against the Native Americans
Germans have acknowledged the genocide against the Jews
Rwanda, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Spain, Portugal, etc....

Many countries have acknowledged such events as a shame and vowed to learn lessons from those and never repeat them again....

Don't know why Turkey is being so hard ass about it

The more turkey protests this, the more people are going to believe that this event took place

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

I wonder what would happen if the Bengali deaths during the '71 war were to be considered as genocide.

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

turkey will protest, im sure pakistan will back turkeys protests (ghost of 71)

theres is a couple of issues that turkey are discriminated on, main one being the medias manipulation of the world map in placing cyprus closer to greece then it actually is.

this current episode is not a welcome development as turkey is already staunchly against the lax US attitude towards kurdistan in iraq.

the ripple may even effect turkeys pro israelli stance and end their EU hopes.

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

turkey is never going into the EU

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

as far as i know its on course to join EU, if not they are welcome to organise an eastern union

what about turkey makes you slightly apprehensive of them?

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

^^ that its not a european country

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

^ what about Cyprus M2K? :chai:

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

Politically the timing of passing such a resolution is pure idiocy.

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

cyprus is a european country because its a country run by europeans

turkey are central asians who took over asia minor from the byzantine empire and thus are not european

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

but do you agree that the genocide against the armenians happened or not?

because the armenian population is only 3 million and 1.5 million were killed

50% of their entire population

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

There are a lot more than 3 million Armenians in this world. You're forgetting how large the Armenian diaspora is.

And yes, it did happen. Robert Fisk has documented the Armenian genocide in his writings.

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

when did they acknowledged that ?

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

^^ Just because Robert Fisk is pro-Palestinian doesn't make his reportings beyond scrutiny

but I agree, the genocide did happen

Turks are just too proud to admit that their ancestors did this horrible crime

As long as they don't acknowledge this, they will never be allowed in the EU

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

yes they have

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

WHEN did they acknowledged that ? what year ?

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

during the reagan years, in the 1980's after the wounded knee incident

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

actually it is very good. This would make them rethink of being Euro whores for eternity and zionist collaborators !!! The turks need to come back to their Muslim Ottoman heritage and need to become more nationalistic.

A prosperous patriotic Muslim Turkey is whats needed

Re: Turkey recalls US ambassador over genocide dispute

Have been watching CNN for 13 years and have Never heard of any apology from the white man.
