Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

You can't blame him. The moderator should have given both the Israeli and the Turk the same amount of time. "We have to eat dinner". Pathetic.

** Turkish PM’s Davos episode echoes in Senate**

ISLAMABD:

The issue of Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who left the stage at the World Economic Forum at Davos after he was interrupted to end his speech while speaking on the Israeli aggression against Palestinians, echoed in the Senate on Friday.
Pakistan People’s Party legislator M Enver Baig said the Turkish prime minister, who had demonstrated courage and bravery while castigating the Israeli president for the massacre of innocent Palestinians, should be saluted, appealing to the rulers of other Muslim nations to demonstrate the same.
The panel moderator had cut off the Turkish premier while he was targeting the Israeli president, who was given enough time to try to justify the aggression, which claimed hundreds of lives, mostly of women and children, and damaging property worth billions of dollars.
The lawmaker noted the Israeli president was given time to justify the massacre of Palestinians, whereas Turkish premier was denied the right when he was taking him to task. Baig said the Turkish prime minister agitated against not being given enough time as was given to the Israeli president and left the forum, saying he would not come again to such a forum.
The PPP parliamentarian pointed out that thousands of people, gathered at Istanbul, had warmly received their leader on this courageous demonstration.
Speaking on a point of order, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Prof Khurshid Ahmad said it was a condemnable act that despite being a Muslim country, Egypt had denied entry to a team of Pakistani doctors at Rafah border, who wanted to serve the Palestinians wounded in large number during the Israeli aggression. “This is a condemnable attitude and we can’t condone it,” he said.
The legislator said it was a very important issue and Pakistan should take notice of it. PML-N’s M Ishaq Dar also spoke on the issue and said another team of Pakistani doctors, which wanted to spend Rs10 million on the suffering Palestinians, had to return from the border.
Prof Khurshid also expressed concern over the pending issue of Wage Award to the journalist community. He noted that he was also a member of the committee, tasked to resolve the issue, but this had met only once.

Thousands of Turks mob Erdogan

Saturday, January 31, 2009
ISTANBUL:

Hours after clashing with the Israeli president, Shimon Peres, in angry scenes at the normally sedate world economic forum, Tayyip Erdogan was welcomed at Istanbul’s Ataturk airport by thousands of supporters waving Turkish and Palestinian flags and chanting “Turkey is proud of you”. Sympathisers also left bouquets of flowers at his official residence.
The outpouring of support displayed the domestic political capital Erdogan gained from his performance at the Swiss resort, where he told Peres:
“When it comes to killing, you know very well how to kill.” He then walked off the stage, declaring that he would never return to Davos, after claiming he had not been allowed to speak by the debate moderator, the Washington Post columnist David Ignatius.
Erdogan also accused Peres of raising his voice and claimed the Israeli statesman had been allowed more speaking time than himself and the panel discussion’s two other participants, the UN secretary general Ban Ki-moon, and Amr Moussa, secretary general of the Arab League.
Peres had earlier made an impassioned defence of Israeli genocide in Gaza, asking Erdogan: “What would you do if you were to have in Istanbul every night a hundred rockets?” Erdogan responded by saying: “President Peres, you are older than me and your voice is very loud. The reason for you raising your voice is the psychology of guilt … I know very well how you hit and killed children on the beaches.”
The prime minister’s wife, Emine – who this month organised a Women For Peace In Palestine lunch for the wives of Islamic dignitaries – also became involved, bursting into tears after telling reporters that “everything Peres said was a lie”.
Erdogan’s outburst was his most high-profile in a series of outspoken attacks on Israel’s Gaza operations. He had previously called the offensive – in which around 1,300 Palestinians died – a “crime against humanity” and demanded Israel’s expulsion from the UN.
His stance has shocked Israeli officials — used to considering Turkey as their closest regional ally — but played to the pro-Palestinian sentiments of the overwhelmingly Muslim Turkish public. Mass demonstrations in favour of Hamas have been staged in Istanbul and other cities.
On arriving at the Ataturk airport, he depicted his Davos walk-out in nationalist terms, telling journalists: “This was a matter of the esteem and prestige of my country. I could not have allowed anyone to poison the prestige and in particular the honour of my country.”

Burqaposhx

Are you saying that every one including PM of Turkey, the people of Turkey and all people in the world are wrong as usual and only U and the one agrees with u is RIGHT?

please say yes or no

I agree, the PM he should have wacked him with something instead, that would have been more apt.

His country seem rather proud of him, as are majority of the sane word…the rest do not really matter…

Dunno what happens to the Turkey's PM. Only time will tell. The sample of this PM is not large enough for solid predictions.

Tell you one thing though!

Islamists Ummah has been wrong on every major issue for decades if not centuries**

.....

..
.

Partly due to traitors from within, Muslims have had in their crowds people who while claiming to be the enlightened islamists, the "straight-walkers", THE way and THE voice of muslim youth have hurt the efforts of true knowledge seekers and pious muslims who truly would work to achieve an Islamic Caliphate. What have you done for Islam other than bicker and nit-pick and construct and often borrow punchlines and fancy names?

The likes of new age Mir Jafars, such as Burney (Pakistani, maybe..more like Indian), Hosni Mubarak (the man that never fails to prove he has no spine), The holy kingship (Sitting like a pumped cobra on muslim resources, ready to serve their masters of west) and their paid accomplices like TTP are the reason Islam gets a bad name. And then there are half-inspired, half-knowledged (that half too inquired from Jihadwatch and such) who claim to be the "real muslims".

Times of today are such that if a man has the courage to speak the truth, the enlightened islamists like burqa and buddies troll all over the achievement, and rather than applauding the courage try to portray a negative image.

Hats off to PM Edrogen Tayyip for addressing the killer the most proper way. He has done what our arab brothers have been dilly dallying about doing. His actions will lay the foundation of a firmer action that signifies the disgust of muslims worldwide with Israel, but atleast he has spoken what the muslims have been thinking.

To you and your buddies: Sour grapes ; )

A simple yes or no would have been solved the issue, i don't know if you lack the guts to say yes/no to the simple question or it is just you are in habit of creating controversies and blaming everyone else for the problems.

No personal attacks please. This is against the forum policy.

In general, only the losers love to blame the traitors.

FYI. Every nation has Kuffar (Taliban in case of Pak), and hypocrites (Taliban-Kuffar supporters). However the nation should be strong enough to defeat the Kuffar and Munafiqeen and win in this world.

If someone is a weakling to begin with, then a little Talib can derail the progress. Thus the the basic weakness contributes 98% to the defeat, while the traitors may be responsible for 2%.

Islamists Ummah has basic flaws due to their close-mindedness. That cannot be fixed by putting the blame on 'traitors'.

It is like George Foreman blaming the gloves and the ring for his defeat (he never did), while ignoring the fact that he himself was a fatso and never worked hard enough to prepare for the fight.

These are but the excuses by intellectually lazy people.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Again a simple question for you,

Who is not hypocrite in Pakistan and Muslim world?

Pulling things outta context and calling it personal attacks is real rich. Why don't you quote my entire post?

Like i said, Mir Jafars :)

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Quite a shock to see a head of state abruptly walk out of a debate being watched by so many other representatives of various countries. However I do have to applaud him for having the courage to do so. I watched the whole debate and Mr. Peres was given A LOT of time to have his say. The fact that he raised his voice on numerous occasions was also uncalled for and very disappointing. He was downright condescending in the way he spoke to Mr. Erdogan. It should've been fair and square, equal time for each member of the panel. If you are shushed and not given your moment to speak, wouldn't you get ticked??

what is so personal about it, u were saying he is hypocrite, they are hypocirte i just added you in the list..

Wonderful Article

Jang Group Online

Can you substantiate your comment ? Who do you call the "sane world" ?

I understand that planning ahead is the problem with the Arab World. Storming out would have shown the world that the Arab World cannot be taken for granted. The moderator was partisan and deserved a strong whacking.

As you rightly pointed out, it is time that the Arab world think through the whole problem and come out with a strong response.

I hope that you too agree that the Israelis are not doing the right thing by bombing the innocent civilians in Gaza.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Brave Mr. Prime Minister! This is called showing some b@lls In this politically correct world.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Well done. Morality actually means something to some leaders.

Simplyme. Thanks for carrying out a civilized discussion.

(unlike some posters/mods who do not know the ABC of a good exchange of ideas)
**

Thank you for your understanding.

I am sure you have heard the saying (with slight modifications off course).

** Bomb me once, shame on you
Bomb me twice, shame on me **

Civilian casualties is the most horrendous outcome of modern warfare. There are only two ways to stop this carnage.

** A - If you are strong, have a bigger bomb than your enemy, but do not initiate hostilities.

B - If you are a weakling, then do not initiate hostilities (period). **

The first ever bombing and killing by Israelis was terrible, thus the shame was definitely on Israelis. Palestinians perhaps did not know that Israel will respond so powerfully. However the second, third or every subsequent bombing means "shame on Palestinians". They have known for decades now, that they should not go to war with Israel (period). And if they do, the sad and vicious cycle of civilian casualties will continue.

Panel discussion is like any other organized event, where the moderating/ referee rules are set BEFORE the start of discussion. If the rules were biased against Turkey, then Erdogan should have not participated in the panel. However if you participate in the panel, you must obey the moderator (biased or not). That's the civilized way of discussions. And Erdogan being emotional (red faced) forgot about this important aspect.
