Turkey PM storms off Davos stage over Peres remarks on Gaza fighting By The Associated Press

**Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday stormed off the stage at the World Economic Forum in Davos, red-faced after verbally sparring with President Shimon Peres over the recent fighting in Gaza. **

Erdogan was angry after being cut off by a panel moderator after listening to an impassioned monologue by Peres defending Israel’s recent 22-day offensive against Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Erdogan told Peres: “You are killing people.”

A finger-pointing Peres told Erdogan at Thursday’s panel that he would have done the same if rockets had been hitting Istanbul.

The Turkish prime minister asked the moderator, Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, to let him speak once more.

“Only a minute,” Ignatius replied.

**Erdogan said in Turkish that, “I remember two former prime ministers in your country who said they felt very happy when they were able to enter Palestine on tanks.”

“I find it very sad that people applaud what you said. There have been many people killed. And I think that it is very wrong and it is not humanitarian,” he said. **

Ignatius said, “We can’t start the debate again. We just don’t have time.”

**Erdogan said, “Please let me finish.” Ignatius responded: “We really do need to get people to dinner.”

The Turkish premier then said, “Thank you very much. Thank you very much. Thank you very much. I don’t think I will come back to Davos after this.” **

The confrontation saw Peres and Erdogan raise their voice shouting - highly unusual at the elite gathering of corporate and world leaders, which is usually marked by learned consensus seeking and polite dialogue. It showed how emotions remain frayed over Israel’s offensive against Hamas that ended less than two weeks ago.

**The packed audience at the Erdogan and Peres session, which included President Obama’s close adviser Valerie Jarrett, appeared stunned. **

Afterward, forum founder Klaus Schwab huddled with Erdogan in a corner of the Congress Center. A press conference with both men was scheduled for 8:30 p.m.

“I have know Shimon Peres for many years and I also know Erdogan. I have never seen Shimon Peres so passionate as he was today. I think he felt Israel was being attacked by so many in the international community. He felt isolated,” said former Norwegian Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik.

“I was very sad that Erdogan left. This was an expression of how difficult this situation is.”

Amr Moussa, the former Egyptian foreign minister who now leads the Arab League, said Erdogan’s action was understandable. “Mr. Erdogan said what he wanted to say and then he left. That’s all. He was right.” Of Israel, he said, “They don’t listen.”

Erdogan brushed past reporters outside the hall. His wife appeared upset. “All Peres said was a lie. It was unacceptable,” she said, eyes glistening

Bravo Mr. PM! How many other muslim leaders have had the nerve to eye-ball the killers and say this in recent history? Wake up arabia, Asia, Africa!

^^

Every other Arab country should have walked out of the forum. This would have shown the Israelis that the Arab world is united.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Thousands of people turned out to greet Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan on his return home from Davos Friday, a day after he stormed off stage following a heated exchange with Israeli Prime Minister Shimon Peres over Israel’s military campaign in Gaza.

And then what?

Our problem is that we just think of a single next step. We should be able to figure out at least 5 next steps in the what-if scenario.

While we do that, our aim must be clear. Storming out of conferences may show anger, but it doesn't help the Palestinians.

Muslims and especially Arabs have been storming out for the last 60 years. And everytime they storm, Palestinians lose more territory.

Got to think out of the box for some of these problems. Otherwise the vicious circle will continue.

Ah yes, another one of your pathetic lies. Do you ever get tired of lying or is that how you were raised?

Muslims and Arabs have not been storming out for the last 60 years.

It was also interesting to see Erdogan’s comments after getting back to Turkey. He said that his comments were aimed at only the Israeli government, and not the Israeli people, or Jews.

He also said that this would not affect the status of Turkey’s diplomatic recognition of Israel. Erdogan basically managed to position himself to be able to strongly criticise and dramatically publicise Israel’s blame for Gaza, while leaving Turkey continue to be positioned to work with both Arabs and Israel towards some kind of peace.

Once more, Erdogan has managed to successfully walk a fine line.

Turkish PM reitreates his criticism not target Israeli people or Jews

A great great man !! I am very proud of him ... Tashakur Mr Erdogan, Tashakur !

Statesmen are cool as cucumber dudes. They do not storm out red faced.

Erdogan may have won acculades from the Islamists, but he lowered still his standing in the world.

Turkey like Pakistan is a major power. Luckily for Turkey, its long term army rule has ensured that Turkey is member of NATO, a HUGE trading partner with the West and a healthy economy.

Thanks to their past "statesmen" like Ozal, Turkey has been able to spend $150 a year on his people, while Pakistan has been languishing at $30 billion a year. Thus with half the population, with similar resources as Pak, the country of Turkey still managers to secure 5 times the Pakistani spending.

This was all possible with the cool dudes of the past. And the current PM like a typical emotionally challenged man, realized his mistake and try to back out by saying the following:

And MS that was not a fine line, it was a diplomatic blunder and now Turkey's secular army has to call up Western capitals in order to clean up the mess of the Islamists.

Please provide the transcripts for these mythical "calls" from Turkish military sources.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Salute to Turkish PM , great friend of Pakistan we are proud of you :salute:

I respect that.

Emotionally charged Pakistanis have a habit of supporting the despots. it was not too long ago that Saddam was the hero. Then the poor guy was nowhere to be found.

In the similar vein, caveman guy UBL was the hero, the kims il jungs, the leftists thugs like castros, and chavezes are all heros for some Pakistanis. And good thing now Turkish PM is being included in this eminent list. Shabash.

Re: Turkey PM storms off Davos stage

Awesome.

Prophet Muhammad is on this list too. Alhamdullilah!

Since you are not a Muslim, you don't have to follow the iman, but at least follow the tolerance of the Messenger pbuh. And do not lower yourself to personal attacks and petty one liners.

As for the list of despots revered by emotionally charged Pakistani groups, you must be joking to add our Messenger in the list. Nauzbillah.

Our Messenger pbuh was sadiq, amin, and rahim. Now tell me how many Talibs fit into this category.

However Pakistani Talbs and other Islamists do follow desposts like kim il jung.

And do not display your ignorance about our Messenger pbuh by astaghfirullah in the same list as kim il.

And I thought you weren’t a Muslim ?

Anyways, the childish manner in which the Turkish PM has acted has certainly not reflected well on his country. There were more dignified & statesmanly ways of protesting against Israel.

Prophet Muhammad was only tolerant when he had to be. He was a skilled political and military leader and that did require some "intolerance" from him as well.

Fine, I'll leave that to you.
None, but then again 99.9% of regular Muslims don't fit into this category either, so what's your point?
They also follow the Prophet. That's their thinking that the Prophet wants them to act in this way. But you are free to disagree with them.
