Turbans...

Turbans or Pagris are associated with a certain area…Contrary to popular beliefs, turbans in India are not a representation of a man’s status, except maybe the size (Jokes?)…

My father’s and mother’s side both have the style which covers one ear…(The Rajputana style)…

I couldn’t find a picture, but a few guys in Amir Khan’s Lagaan were wearing it…

Do any of you guys have a certain ‘Pagri’ style from your place of origin?

Re: Turbans...

I think this should be in culture...

Re: Turbans...

MY grandad had a special turbun that was huge - and yes - the larger the pag the higher your status in society, noone was allowed to have a pag higher in height than Rajai. The landowners lesser etc. My grandfather also had a special style, but as I am no expert and he is since deceased, I am afraid you may have to find my grandmother for those answers.

Re: Turbans...

size did matter even in those days

^^

Sar barha Sardaar ka, pair barha ganwaar ka...:D

Re: Turbans…

Elder men from both ma mama and papa’s side wear those Afghan type turbans, either white or black with thin stripes across them, or did do because nobody really bothers with them anymore and stick to those woolen hats.

I myself like amaamah best, it looks :smooth:  and is just so much more tidy.

Re: Turbans...

its not only areas lajawab,, every tribe has a different style of wearing it..

Re: Turbans…

According to the Pashtuns, they first started wearing turbans as a symbol of readiness to die, carrying their kafaan on their heads. It also represents respect and position but anyone can wear it not just the land lords. Amongst Pashtuns there is no landlord or choudry, everyone guards their own respect and honor even the guy who cuts the grass of the Khan. So if the Khan is wearing a big turban so can his gardener. Different tribes wear different colors and different ways. It also represents their religious affiliation and their belief in monotheism since everyone from Abraham (pbuh) to Mohammad (phuh) wore turbans and their heads were covered. There are many type, there is the roster type with one end sticking up which is copied by everyone in Pakistan and all others in the region even by Pakistani parlamentery troops and border guards. Then there is the original Afghan style worn by the Durranis which was adopted by the Sikhs. Sikhs version is tighter and slicker. There is a new style which is of the Taliban, it is a blend between the Arabic turban and Pashtun.

Here is an interesting link you all will enjoy:
