Lajjo i dont know about other areas of pakistan but in sindh atleast the pag is considered a major symbol of respect and honour.. in other words izzat. In some places its as serious as if you hit someone and force his pag to fall off thats as bad as killing that guy. In response to which people from his tribe may come and claim your life.

And when someone takes off his own pag its like showing humility. You musta seen in dramas where a guy whos pleading to another guy for something, will take his own pag off and get on both knees to show that he's not kiddin.. most commonly seen in scenes where theres a wedding going on and the dulha walay suddenly refuse to marry the girl and then the girl's dad comes crying and what not!

I wore pagri all my school years as it was mandatory in Aitchison College Lahore. Blue ones in winter and grey ones in summer.. but those had to be starched enough and stand upright.. In punjab people still wear pagris everywhere..
